hkskyline's 2018 in Taichung

About an hour south of Taichung is Douliu, which is home to just over 100,000 people and hosts some historic attractions that are worth a half day outing. Taiping Road has a number of Baroque-style historic shophouses with some 90 years of history.

Enjoyed seeing these. Reminds me a bit, in scale and style, of some of the areas in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Singapore that I saw 40 years ago. Especially Melaka.

Yes, the grittiness is quite familiar, and everything is a bargain by international standards!

Back in the city, Taichung has a few water revitalization projects worth stopping by. The Shin Sei Green Waterway is very near the main railway station.

Along this riverfront is Miyahara, a red-brick building used by a Japanese opthalmology doctor as his clinic during the colonial era. After the war, it was used by the Taichung Health Bureau and subsequently by a pastry company.

how interesting to see this.

hmm, the first pics look like a grungier version of the old singapore buildings.

the nice waterway project looks more for show than anything else though.

however, the food look great and the place looks very livable to me. thx!
