Wanted to get some pics before the next earthquake pancakes this pox (the Viaduct, not beloved Pioneer Square). The Viaduct is the elevated state highway 99 that used to be the sole west coast connector between Canada and Mexico and goes right down Seattle's waterfront. I actually took it into downtown to get these pics. The Nisqually Quake of 2001 turned it into damaged goods. The city can't find the cash to tunnel it, nor the guts to tear it down. If the state gets it's way, it'll build a new one even bigger! Alas, it will come down to a special election this spring to let the public- well versed in all things like transit planning, urban design, and city planning (/sarcasm)- figure it out.
