I find it really hard to believe that local newscasts in Canada's largest cities including Vancouver are all money losers. Obviously the lower ones in the ratings will lose money.

As someone has mentioned BC has its own all-news channel.

TVA runs 90 minutes of news at dinner time in Montreal, which is well above the CRTC requirement.

Also, CBC, CTV, CityTv and Global all run locally-produced evening news shows in Montreal in a metro where the anglo population is under 1 million people.

It is hard to believe. It's even harder to believe someone would lie about it to their significant other in conversation. For what purpose?

We have CP24 in Toronto. The news broadcast takes up the left hand corner. The rest of the screen are tickers including advertisments. It's a different model from the 6 O'clock news.

They totally overachieved to start the season but it looks like the Oilers may be coming back to earth a little. Here's hoping they get the ship righted and don't fall into a tailspin.

I believe in the Oilers when January is here and they aren't on a six points in eleven games kind of run.

And welcome to the Nathan MacKinnon show.

Was just a formality, been a done deal for a long time. Not a fan of the timing, but might as well get the shovels in the ground ASAP.

I as a Stockholm syndrome Leaf's Fan, cannot stand the coverage of Toronto. It just makes the fanbase seem like a bunch of bush league sore losers who can't stand hearing about other teams.

Aside from the Babcock story they're having a very underwhelming season. Edmonton/Winnipeg are 10 times as interesting.

I don't understand why hockey has to be such a one trick pony. No international tournament, minimal coverage of usports/juniors/ahl, complete avoidance of European hockey etc.

Add to that everyone is stuck suckling on one team.

How is hockey's international play any more underwhelming than football (nonexistant), baseball, or basketball? It's also the only major league where good players are expected to make the jump as a teenager and not go through university or the minors.

Hockey has plenty of international tournaments. There's two on simulatenously over the holidays via TSN.

Minimal coverage includes both the CHL and AHL being shown live.

The European Champions Hockey League quaterfinals were shown on TSN this week and the KHL is available on DAZN.

Showing games live and talking about them are different things. Especially when two of those tournaments are European timezones.

World Junior talk is pretty sparse on youtube.

The ~4-5 Northern European countries that field competitive teams make hockey more international than Basketball? One of the fastest growing sports in the World, and popular in pockets of every continent from Argentina, to Spain, to Nigeria, China, Australia, etc.

I suspect that the sheer number of games makes it hard to keep up with whatever is going on apart from your home team and maybe the small handful of top NHL teams and key divisional rivals.

Football is more egalitarian in that way... whether you're a CFL or NFL fan you generally know more or less what is going on with every team in the league because they only play once a week. That's a much tougher feat to accomplish with hockey with so many games every night... I mean, I keep tabs on the Jets and remain somewhat aware of how the Manitoba Moose are doing, but don't ask me a question about, say, the Los Angeles Kings... never mind the Spengler Cup or the Swedish Elite League. Unless you're Bob McKenzie, who has time for all that?

Why are you going to YT for World Junior talk? What are you even complaining about anymore?
