Far southwest side. I believe it has been reported before as being located in south Bexar but it's Southwest Bexar/Far Southwest SA.

The entire movie was filmed in SA except for the final boxing/fight scene which I believe was filmed in LA.

SAF Studio's has a video showing the 530 acre film studio on the far southwest side.

Check it out here.

It looks like a really good location especially for exterior shots.

I'm not movie guy (like I needed to say that), but it looked like an old abandoned ranch complete with cows and it's own junk pile, and that was pretty much it.

Looks a good site for Texas Chainsaw Massacre VII (or whatever they're on now) or the next Lou Diamond Philips ScyFy Movie

I guess it's changed and any artistic venture for SA helps. Hopefully some quality will come out of it.

But, I thought the main reason they got the place was to blow stuff up?

Are they going to rebuild anything new on it or just showing us the studios?

All those old buildings will be refurbished and used as sets. They're actual hundred year old homes, etc.

They're building actual high tech film studios as well. You can see it under construction towards the end. Most of what was shown was setting and landscape of the studio. The river, lakes, homes, etc.

Kind of late on this.

The groundbreaking was Tuesday.

Former Mayor Hardberger was there.

I think that this can and will be a good thing for SA. We have very minimal exposure on the big screen, but I think that this might/will help out. If it does pan out well (short term,) it will only help the development of that 90/1604 area, which I think will be sprawled out within the next 5-7 years anyways.

I really want to see this project take off. There's definitely plenty of land out there.

Is it considered a major national film studio?

I found these two articles which don't give out a whole lot of new information, but a few nice tidbits.

SAF Studios catches eye of directors and producers

Breaks Ground on 536 Acre Motion Picture Sound Studio and Entertainment Complex

The first one is the only source I have found that says there will be two large hotels. The others just say a hotel complex.
