Looks like Shaka won’t get to see the inside of it unless UT schedules Marquette.

Moody Center posted a video on Instagram showing more renderings, less focused on the basketball aspect

They included a massing of 6 x Guadalupe in the distance (and a few others) in the last segment of the video.

I think it's pretty awesome that the old Red River will be turned into a cul-de-sac for ride sharing drop-offs. Good planning! That will be awesome for football season, too.

The dropoff is great. It's too bad we had to dump the light rail line to it.

But the Gold line (whenever it is actually made into light rail) has a station named "Medical School" that should go pretty close to that

yea but who knows if/when that will happen. If money starts pouring in from the federal goverment then that will hopefully get it back on the construction plan but the gold line is already behind the orange and blue. I mean maybe they are still doing the engineering for it but there is no community outreach which I thought was required. Nova might know.

The windows alone on Moody make me like it more than the Irwin Center. It's so much more inviting.

You know, I'm 50/50 on the low profile. The design is for sure much more modern, but in a city that's going vertical so quickly, it's a little jarring to have such a large chunk of missing mass.

I mean . . . Erwin isn't beautiful, but it's imposing. It does its part on the skyline. The new facility doesn't really at all, so far as I can tell.

Quibbles, obviously.

Yeah, I hear you on that point. I guess I don't mind because Myers is next door and that whole area is for sports stuff. DKR is imposing enough to make up for Moody. And isn't there a CVC which is one of the reasons why Moody is largely underground?

Either way, it's a very attractive design.

Isn't the low profile due to a CVC?

Things are about to get confusing when all the big concerts will either take place at the Moody Center, the Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park, or the Moody Theater at the W.

I know, right. It's like trying to find an address on "Peachtree" in Atlanta.

Yep, but at least Q2 Stadium and COTA are unique.

We are losing a lot of great small venues, but we are gaining a lot of great large ones!

Ooooooo, was the longhorn removed from the roof?!?! Hoping so, I felt that kinda dulled the final look of this.... although it IS for college basketball.

I like the low profile/silhouette of this baby (and also love the cul de sac plan). I'm really into sports/music arenas as of late--I think Q2 set this off. We certainly have our fair share of attractive ones these days.

I've been more into stadium/arena construction too. High rises got a little repetitive/monotonous for me. #AustinWorldProblems

Yeah I like the low profile too. It allows for views of the skyline rather than blocking them, like the ugly-ass Erwin Center does. The Moody Center will feel more integrated into the city/campus area.
