Srsly, Austin is NOT New York. Trust me. I've lived in both places.

Not speaking for the guy but I seriously doubt he was comparing cities.

I don't get the shade complaint. Shade is awesome for 8 months of the year here and lowers AC bills. The City even gives developers FAR bonuses for shading the sidewalks around their buildings.

Not even just new york. Go to Houston or Dallas and you'll experience the same thing in their downtowns.

I have like 10 hackberries that are going to rot from the inside and crush my roof one day I won't even get rid of because they dropped the average summer temp in one of my rooms by 10 degrees.

I was not (and have also lived in NYC for 4.5 years and am *well* aware of the differences between the cities)

random thought, but does anyone know why the cool cross-bracing was removed for this one? I was trying to find the render but couldn't.

I don't remember ever seeing any renderings with it, just this one elevation that showed it. This was the first image of it we saw. You'll notice the top is slanted also.

That would have been really cool. What we have now is still pretty great, though.

The flat, rectangular top that we got is way better than that generic slanted top. This current one has a way stronger look.

Also, gotta chime in with a late dubya tee eff at the recent NIMBYism here. I'm always super surprised and confused to encounter that here. Cities are for big buildings. There's nothing wrong with mixing the old with the new.

This image is nothing but cool. I love that angle.

Ha! There's a 13th floor and the 14th floor is at 666 feet above sea level. So superstitious people are SOL either way.

Awesome. Really looking forward to the day that this beast surpasses Indy and the Austonian in height.

Sweet. You made it up to the old Whole Foods garage. The last time I was up there the security guard, who complimented me on my bike and was really nice about it, told me they weren't letting people up there anymore. I used to go almost every time I was downtown for photos. I haven't been up there in years, so it's good seeing that view.

I just happen to be lucky today with security and parking garages haha. He was in the elevator with me and asked me which floor I was heading to. Was up there for about 15 mins taking in the view.

Maybe try locking your bike up on the street somewhere and walk into the garage like you are parked there. Other than your camera, they wouldn't know you from any other customer.

Or just go buy some groceries and bring your camera.
