Costco galway update

I was told by a Costco employee that the current store is roughly 135,000 sq feet and the new store will be close to 200,000 sq feet -the biggest in Canada. After passing by the new site, it looks almost twice the size of the Mount Pearl Walmart which would make sense as I believe it's around 110,000 sq feet.

Also, the gas bar is proceeding with the canopy nearly completed. I also heard that it will be the largest gas bar on the island with at least 16 pumps....possibly up to 24.

Does anyone know if the current Costco gas bar on Aberdeen will still be in operation after the move? It would be nice to have Costco gas stations in two locations... cheap gas for both east and west end!!!!

Tanks are already in the ground so seems !ogical but not sure they would want to operate a 'satelite' location.

On the topic of Costco, has anyone heard if they will sell booze?

Costco in St. John's will 100% not be selling alcohol. This is due to provincial regulations.

It might be tricky to sell the old property while keeping the existing gas bar there.

I could be wrong but I don't think Costco is interested in operating gas bars not next to their store. They want you to drive to a Costco. It's part of the "package". Them rumoured to be building a mega gas bar at the new location sorta confirms that.

So apparently when Galway was initally zoned the wetlands were not mapped, but now they are mapped and the city wants to move to protect them:

I mean if each one of those beams/pillars has a pump on either side that would be 24 would it not? (Although maybe the middle beam is just for support of the overhang i dunno)

Honestly I haven't seen the new Costco in person but from the photos I have seen of it it does not seem bigger...

I don't think there'd be a pump on the middle beam... that'd seem hard to access, especially if there are vehicles ahead and behind.

Apparently it's supposed to be significantly bigger. Maybe the pictures are a bit deceiving... LOL! I haven't seen the structure in person, myself, either.

There's a decent video of it here:

It looks big but not really bigger than the other Costco...at least to me.

Hmm... I see what you're saying, it's a bit tough to really nail down how much bigger it is though. I guess we'll find out soon enough!

I can't see how you can accurately gauge the size of the building from a video or some off angle pictures.
