Thanks mountainman!

That Telus Park building was supposedly completed when I last lived in Kelowna but I didn't know it existed.

thanks for the update. ellis parc has used better materials than the One Water street. One water street is a spaderel mess.

Have patience. The models look very attractive. The "spandrels" are actually glass.

Agreed. Kelowna's current council needs to wake up. They encourage Airbnbs, whereas cities like Vancouver do the exact opposite. The difference is Vancouver wants people living and working in the city and Kelowna is ok with retirees and being a seasonal resort town. They need to change that mindset and realize that Kelowna has the potential to be a more rounded and complete economy.

Potentially a good investment for some but bad for others . . .
The One Water Street development forbids AirBnB. More precisely, short term rentals (I believe <30 days) are disallowed.

Brooklyn, on the other hand, touts the AirBnB permission as a way to recoup investment. I agree, this is not the way to go and leads to long term deterioration of the property, the loss of community and a poorer overall experience for the occupants.

Not sure about Ella.

Curious if anyone has heard rumours on the old Monaco Towers development site on the corner of Doyle and St.Paul. It is now listed as sold (or was this an old link) and all previous application documents have disappeared from the city developments site. Hmm.

Interesting, haven't heard anything. Did the Daily Courier site next door ever sell?

Westcorp to announce name, operator of new luxury Kelowna hotel

The name of the “exclusive world-wide luxury brand” hotel that Westcorp is planning to build in downtown Kelowna will be “revealed” in two weeks.

More than a decade in the works, Westcorp got its development permit from the City of Kelowna in February for its planned 33-storey hotel at the foot of Queensway downtown.

An invitation to the press conference on March 25 to announce the name says this will be the first hotel of this brand in Canada.

Westcorp originally bought the land in 2007 and has made a number of efforts to launch the project over the years.

Its current development permit is good for two years.

A 33 story hotel is really impressive for Kelowna. Pretty exciting.

And of course... no we have a pandemic crisis on our hands. 50 bucks says another delay!

That said out of all the tourists centric places Kelowna and the Okanagan may weather the storm better than most? No reliance on cruise ships, vast majority of visitors are “local” (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton) and therefore drive to Kelowna rather than fly, and many of the activities offered are outside and more “individual” in nature.

Fingers crossed...

There are cases in Vancouver and somewhere in Alberta though. Will people from Kelowna welcome them with open arms? There’s also a border crossing at Osoyoos to worry about.

Well not at the moment, I am thinking of summer time and even more so after this passes / comes under control. To me Kelowna looks to be a spot to possibly recover faster or even be the fallback for those along the lines of “well, our cruise is cancelled / don’t want to risk a cruise, how about a week / weekend in the Okanagan?”

Starting as of April 3rd there’s to be hundreds of cruise ships coming to Victoria. There’s no plan to stop them the Harbour Authorities said. Just baffling to me.
