Over to you Biff.
As Urban Recluse mentioned it will look different....apparently (I haven't seen any renderings). I do know for a fact it will be a different colour.

Thanks Biff. I assume the new and old buildings will have the same finish? Do you know what, if anything, is going in the original hotel space? I would assume something to connect the two buildings above grade.

Or should we all just wait another week until the presser. haha

I doubt they'd need to connect the buildings above grade seeing that a below grade connection already exists... I'd bet on them just maintaining it as an empty space for the eventual construction of the final phase of Winnipeg Square.

I would prefer to see a two or three storey atrium connecting them.

How about a 5 storey atrium hotel as originally planned?

In addition to the Sutton Place? I do not believe the downtown needs this. I would prefer to see the Marlbourough sold and millions invested in it.

Then how will the sun shine in Winnipeg Square?

But what about the 150 room extended-stay hotel that was 'guaranteed' to be built if heritage designation was removed from the Winnipeg Hotel, Fortune and MacDonald blocks? Doesn't that mean there is a market?

I'm really curious how this building will integrate with street level on Main, Graham and Garry.

Yes. I want to see the tower built right to the sidewalk at the intersection of Main and Graham. No more damn plazas.

It's kind of funny. Right now there are steps at that corner, maybe 4 of them, that lead up to nothing. You get to the top and it's a small plaza ish type space.

The same way it does now, through the windows. If the hotel space is left as is, sun will shine!

Did someone mention Raymond Wan and Hat in one sentence?

Picture this image, adding multiple floors and removing the guitar-esque podium but leaving the fins...

On another note say No to a plaza, even though there is one at the site now..

I was in the underground over lunch hour and took note of the structure as I walked through. Seems the main structure are ~1m diameter concrete columns with ~1m square beams on top. The rest of the structure, which is cast in place concrete beams and slab, span from there. Seams pretty robust for another building to go on top, but I am not structural engineer.

And to be fair. Its a very, very small plaza haha just an odd space.

Makes the most sense, funneling people underground to an already established retail mall/area.

We'll see what the media release gives us on appearance and hopefully conceptual renders of the project at least.. I'm actually really excited about the Re-clad, and change of color.

I didn't think this was a bad proposal, although it looked oddly hostile to 201 Portage.

(Ray Wan actually designed a pretty nice tower for that site for Creswin prior to the above proposal... it worked a little more nicely with 201 Portage. I don't think it's on his website anymore, though. Wan has probably made enough money from never-realized Portage and Main proposals to buy a nice new cottage in Lake of the Woods by now...)

I would imagine the reclad will extend to the updating of the podium. Maybe an overall rejig so that it looks complete when all is said and done and not sitting waiting for the formerly proposed hotel. At the very least we can say bye bye to the Eighties brown.

The skywalk connection across Graham into the new tower will also be a smoother transition, functionally and color wise I'm sure(or hope)
