I think it looks very masculine. Some folks find that sexy.

Personally, I like the building.

The brick is going to look good against all the new primarily glass skyscrapers.

It's really very appropriate for the Warehouse District being that most of the old buildings there are brick.

Austin’s Hotel ZaZa set to break ground

By Shonda Novak
American-Statesman Staff

Construction is set to begin on a 24-story tower that will include a high-end Hotel ZaZa and about 200 luxury apartments across from Republic Square Park in downtown Austin.

Z-Resorts and Gables Residential, which are partnering in the project, announced the groundbreaking exclusively to the American-Statesman. The apartments and 160-room boutique hotel are scheduled to open in late 2016.

Site prep has begun. They've started ripping up the parking lot. Three small buildings will also be demolished to make way.

Construction site on the left. The one on the right is for the 5th & Colorado office tower.

Two years later and still in prep, the site has been plagued with problems. Another groundbreaking was held recently so hopefully things run smoothly from this point on.

After 2-year delay, work starts on Hotel ZaZa in downtown Austin

Quote:
After a delay that lasted nearly two years, developers said this week that work has started on a 24-story downtown Austin tower that will house a 160-room high-end hotel and about 200 apartments.

Hotel ZaZa and Gables Residential first announced the project at West Fourth and Guadalupe streets in 2012, with plans to start construction in 2014 and open in 2016.

Instead, the lot – formerly the site of The Ginger Man, a bar – has sat largely untouched.

The project’s new completion date is late 2018, Hotel ZaZa president Benji Homsey said.

Aside from the pushed-back opening date, little about the project has changed, Homsey and Gables Residential development director Jennifer Wiebrand said. The same lenders are on board, the number of hotel rooms and apartment units remains the same and the building’s look is unaltered.
