Canada's Best Places to Live - Prosperity

I found this interesting table of Canada's best places to live. thought it might have a gander at see how Manitoba's/Saskatchewan's cities are ranked from 100+ communities. top 25 can be seen from the table i have provided.

Manitoba
Winnipeg 7th - Brandon 18th - Thompson 19th

Saskatchewan
Saskatoon 17th - Swift Current 22nd - Regina 23rd

Rankings

Cities left out..

Manitoba
Portage la Prairie 69th

Saskatchewan
Estevan 34th
Yorkton 43rd
Llyodminster 57th
Prince Albert 62nd
Moose Jaw 79th
North Battleford 111th

Discretionary Income..

As you can see from that table Manitoba & Saskatchewan are both having their rewards in the major communities..

It is for sure something to be very proud about. Now places that have been left in the dark are benefiting. The only problem with all the excitement is there is a labor shortage, smaller communities don't have the same pull as the rest of the larger centers resulting in delayed construction.

Driving around this morning .. I was taken back by the large numbers of For Sale signs infront of houses here in Calgary.

It seems that people are starting to move back in droves .. thats should help the labour shortage in Manitoba.

In my office I have had a few people ask my about Winnipeg .. as they are considering relocation.

The discretionary income list is a funny one.

No wonder Wal-Mart loves this town.
700,000 people with $25,000 to throw away and no taste or fashion sense.

I just keep seeing more and more evidence on how self-depreciating Winnipeggers are.

Very sad.

Really? I don't think so.

How many other cities do you know that are so disgusted with things in their city that they lash out in pure frustration? I don't see this in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, etc. (well, maybe Regina but not as much as Winnipeg).

In Canada at least, it appears to be a Winnipeg thing; something that seems to be accepted by Winnipeg, and would likely deter anyone who reads these kinds of comments into moving to a depressing city like Winnipeg.

Wow thats quite the attack there. I don't see what so depressing, taking into account that every major city has its downfalls.

Not to mention its usually people who've actually lived in a city who tend to attack it the most. Thus having a point of view.

Pootkau just got back from Montreal so perhaps his fashion expectations have been raised unrealistically!

Move back where in droves, do you know where all these for sale sign people are from? What numbers constitute a drove?

These people are just trying to be nice! I would assume none of them asking you would be born and raised in Calgary wanting to relocate.

Any city that has people relocating to it is going to have a certain percentage of people return to the province they left in the first place due to family or some other sentimental reasons.

Yeah people who are actually from Saskatchewan born and raised, then left for Alberta for a better paying job and schooling. I don't know if its true, but they at least have sold their home or homes in Alberta for a cheaper lot in Saskatchewan. By doing that they get cheaper price when it was cheap, they can have three homes for the price of one home in Alberta.

Interesting that this might be happening. The 12 or so transplanted Saskatchewantonians I work with have all lived here for a dozen plus years and their kids are well entrenched in Alberta, they have no plans on moving back.
I guess a small percentage that have only been in Alberta for a a year or Two may relocate back.

Possibly.. Hey it's all speculation and guesstimates really. Until some read data comes out then you will know for sure. I'll go and look to see if there is any.
