Another Summer Beach Season in MB

I desided to create this thread for anyone who wishes to post any news or photos of the Manitoba or Northwest Ontario beaches we all love so much.

To start it off I'll post this clip... from Wikipedia

------------------------------------------------------
Grand Beach is a freshwater beach on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. It is located on the northern edge of the town of Grand Marais in the Rural Municipality of St. Clements.

Grand Beach is part of Grand Beach Provincial Park and features 3 km of fine, white sand and is backed by sand dunes that rise up to 12 meters above the beach. A boardwalk at the West end of the beach offers food and shopping. Change rooms and plumbed washrooms are available all along the beach.

The park offers 48 seasonal camp sites, 18 of which have electricity. Available activities include excellent bird watching, cycling and hiking trails, boating and berry picking (saskatoons, chokecherries, and blueberries). In the winter the park offers snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. A parking pass is required to enter the park. Passes are $6 for three days or $25 for a yearly pass.

Grand Beach was once voted (by Playboy Magazine) one of the top ten beaches in the world .

I'll try to help.

Click on the icon on the top.

There should be something that says:

Script Prompt:

Please enter the URL of your image:

I usually remove the "http:" and than paste the URL.

To get a URL from an image one the web, click right and go down to "Properties". There should be a section that says Address (URL), highlight the link and copy it.

Than paste it on the image URL link here.

To use your own image upload it to Imageshack or some other website, and you should receive the URL link.

I hope this is helpful and not to confusing.

I get stuck on the url part, as I don't ever know what the url for my pics are. I just wish they had a browse option to be more user friendly for us less-inclined computer people.

Here is a good link about the Lake Winnipeg Beach Corridore.

http://laverendryetrail.mb.ca/lwb_corridor.html

Too bad they don't include the beaches on the west side of the lake as well.

Great pics, the contrast of the two grand beach shots really shows how popular a place grand beach is. I have a cottage at Lester beach just north of grand, has anyone else noticed how much of the beach sand was washed away in a big storm last year, I figure the beach is about 2 feet lower anyone know if Grand beach suffered a similar fate?

Sorry, but I'll take this over mountains anyday

Nothing says summer like spending time near a Manitoba world-class beach!

Where are the pictures from this year?

Isn't Winnipeg smoking hot right now? I am sure based on how much warmer Winnipeg is than Calgary that the lakes are really warm and everyone is going swimming right now.

Yeah, it's pretty nice for sure in July and Aug...it was actually quite cool that day despite "looking" warm...topped out at about 21c.

Anyhow - with regards to the mountains, to each their own

It's been like that for awhile in Alberta too. It was only a matter of time before it happened there, I guess.

Went to a house party on 18th Ave. NW. last weekend; got chewed up alive. I was really kicking myself for not bringing the 'DEET'. I also live up by nose hill, and they are a nuissance there too, especially in the evening. When I go for runs, I'm careful not to go in shaded areas or I'll be attacked.

I work outdoors all across Alberta in various ecozones, and trust me, they are out there in horrendous numbers. Unbearable at times.

One place where I didn't except to see them was in the Hanna-Coronation area. It was a warm sunny day, but as soon as we stepped out of our truck, they were on us like flies on you know what. And they are HUGE! I couldn't believe it!
