It looks like this might have rounded corner(s). If that's the case, this pleases me. I kind of wish it was a 700 footer though. Something in height between the Independant and 6X. I really like the top of the building, not sure if you would call it a crown, at least not in a conventional way, the openings exposing some interior is pretty cool. I wonder if any of that would be visable from below or from a distance. This is very close to what I've been waiting for, except 10 floors shorter. I just showed the renderings to my chihuahua and she just turned away and buried herself under the blanket. What do dogs know anyway

I like the design, especially the round part. The top also looks amazing.

We now have 15 towers in development that are over 500'. That doesn't even include some planned projects that should be well over that height like Block 190, Railyard Condos site x 2, and 321 W. 6th.

At least they are making an attempt to incorporate 409 Colorado's facade. It'd be nice if the building itself was incorporated into it, instead of just some lame half-ass attempt at bolt-on wall decor.

That’s a cylinder, or my name isn’t we vs us. Immediately 65% more interesting than most of the other stuff we’ve been seeing.

That is a cool design and definitely rounded rather than squared but I too wish this was taller than it is proposed, especially considering it will be cady corner to 6X Guad. still another 600+ footer is nothing to sneeze at. At least it isn't another 595 or just under 700 sort of situation since those irritate me more. It's like why not just at 10 or 15 feet more to push it to the next level sort of thing..

FYI... 321 W. 6th is the project that will be caddy corner to 6XG.

ooooooooohhhh. This is the one at 5th and Colorado. My bad, I get so confused with these names plus theres so much going on it's hard to keep them in order. Actually I think the height works for that location. I just hope they incorporate entertainment venues at ground level such as music venues.

The old Frank building is not a part of this and is going to keep standing. It will be similar to the Roosevelt Room after Hanover Republic is built.

Nice. 634 feet is some good height. For comparison sake, the highest occupied floor of The Austonian is 635 feet and 631 feet on The Independent.

I cant help but think that this tower would look very lovely in black and that the crown should be gold plated.

That sounds great! If only they would be so bold. Would really look amazing on the skyline. Unfortunately, it seems like most of the facade coloration with the recent group of towers and of the next round of buildings, (save for maybe 6X's recent glass color change and the Sail Tower) if different than what we have, tends to be only a slight bit of uniqueness but nothing too different. I personally think there should be a push to really add more colors from black to dark green to red for contrast.

Also just noticed the way the tower will be oriented. The slanted side will face northeast which is pretty odd considering most DT buildings generally face towards the south. Personally I think the slanted side should also face south either angled southeast or southwest because that's where the best views of the skyline are.

That would look pretty neat.

So, the Frost Bank Tower I remember was originally nicknamed the "nose hair trimmer" - if this one is black with a gold crown, then it could be the razer/clipper.

I noticed there are only 40 floors shown in the elevation, versus the 41 that is mentioned by Towers.net. The 40th floor is listed as the "sky deck" - which I wonder if that means it'll be an observation deck. Level 41 seems to be the main roof.

As much as I hate to see further destruction of the Warehouse district, I am loving this tower and think the sacrifice will be well worth it. I am glad they are making efforts to preserve at least the facade of the old Drafthouse building too - a piece of Austin history that should not be forgotten!

Loving the curves, let's just hope we don't get another VE nightmare like what happened with the Fairmont.

41 is just the number on the site plan’s data table — we typically run with that instead of the elevations just to be safe. Hope there’s a good observation deck on this thing.

I know its just a sketch, but dear God let's hope it's done with better finishing materials than the "beer can" building in Tampa.

A hard 'no' from me on concrete brutalist structures that look like they belong in Soviet-era eastern Europe, like the Tampa Sykes building.

The new PNC tower in Pittsburgh has some similar angles to the sketch. A much better approach in my opinion.
