This project really is confusing. What was the point of the pillars at the beginning when they were working on the foundation for months? Those pillars seem to be nonexistent now.

I’m not an engineer, but my understanding is that the auger cast piles were drilled into the ground to support the building and to keep the to-be-built slab from being pushed down by the weight of the building. On top of that was an initial thin concrete pour, waterproofing material, then they installed the grid of rebar for the massive 6 foot thick slab. There are some plumbing and drainage pipes built into the rebar. Then, last night they had the concrete pour to fill up that huge grid of rebar. There are some voids for the elevator pit, electric vault, etc that are below slab level.

So to answer the question, those early pillars are still there, like 100+ legs supporting the slab.

Thanks. Looking at the webcam, where are the elevators going to be? I can imagine with this being a hotel, that support for constant water is much more significant than that of other office buildings.

The rectangle that is partially obscured by the base of the tower crane is elevator pit.

The bottom right hole is electric vault, which is actually under the sidewalk, not under the tower itself.

Interesting. I need to look designs again, but only two elevators seems small.

It's being built on a piece of land the size of a postage stamp.

That is what's so crazy about it. Confusing and complex and interesting. I can't imagine more than 5 rooms per floor lol

I just looked at the site plans again. It looks like there will be 13 rooms per floor (249 rooms, seems about right), except the penthouse floor, and three elevators. If wrong, correct me.

Yup, on prime land. The occupancy rates might be interesting. I do wonder if they will regret not going bigger/taller in 5-10 years.

Yes, 3 elevators. Not all floors have 13 rooms because it gets narrower at the top. 195 rooms.

The header for this thread says 20 floors. This blog from the general contractor says 22 floors:

Should the header be updated?

I think it’s river level, plus 20 stories of interior space, plus mechanical penthouse on top of that, so I guess it depends what you’re counting.

Man, those first sections went up fast.

I don’t think we’ll be able to see it on the webcam, but they will be putting up a self-erecting mechanism and the full boom, and then jacking it up, inserting new tower sections under the boom, building it as they go up. That should be cool to watch.

I’ll take a picture if I go down.

That's exactly what I was thinking! It went up really fast. I had to look back at the times to make sure. But they put up the first few in less than an hour

Canopy crane is now peaking its head into the sky. It's right behind the Drury sign.

Interesting. Seems a bit tall for construction having just started.
