Will also contain offices and retail.

Great photos of the Union Station work! I passed through Raleigh last night on Amtrak's Carolinian and they are making good progress on the new high-level platforms. Union Station and the Dillon already make the area feel much closer to downtown than just a few months ago.

New 7 floor AC hotel along with 125 hotel rooms and 25 condo units announced for Glenwood South in downtown Raleigh. It will be located on Glenwood Blvd near Hillsborough, less than half a block from the under construction, 10 floor One Glenwood.

This is the AC Hotel that was built in North Hills area of Raleigh. This will likely be a similar design, and the same height.

Two Glenwood:

Boutique 7 floor hotel to be located across the street from the under-construction 10 floor One Glenwood office building downtown. Site work already under way with footing to be poured around the end of the year and opening scheduled for 2019.


The Fairweather:

"The plan is for a five-story building with about 45 units, from 838 to 2,645 square feet. Four floors will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom units that range in price from the upper $300,000s to the $600,000s. The fifth floor will have penthouse suites from $700,000 to $1 million." Source

On the site formerly known as Smokey Hollow, Peace is now under construction. Will include a ground floor Publix market.

The city of Raleigh is moving ahead to the planning phase for a new city hall and offices.

Current city-owned block:



The city leases office space in a number of other offices, and as a growing city now average 500 walk in customers per day. Plans will replace this block with larger, more efficient buildings that will allow city employees spread out around downtown to move to a central location. They will also include a third building in the back that will be a public-private partnership to include retail and possible residential.

You can see this site in the previous aerial image in the post above. One Glenwood is on the right and will be 10 floors. Two Glenwood is on the left and will be a parking deck wrapped with a 5 floor hotel.

The low-rise News and Observer site takes up nearly an entire city block, and the property has been sold and plans have surfaced and then been canceled and resurfaced again regarding development that could reach 30 to 40 floors. Here is one potential rendering:

Something like this would be huge for DTR. Raleigh really needs to work on growing their skyline. I'd love this

Raleigh:

FNB Tower (formerly known as the Charter Square North project)


"Construction is slated to begin in May on the 22-story, mixed-use FNB Corporation tower on Fayetteville Street. Dominion Realty CEO Andy Andrews says the company has signed on New York Life as an equity partner in the $116 million project. Construction is expected to last 22 months.

The first seven floors will be taken up by office space, totaling 156,000 square feet. Terraces jut off the side of the ninth floor, which is mostly dedicated as amenity space for office workers and the people living in the residential units above. One of the terraces has a pool sporting sweeping views of downtown Raleigh. All told, the building will have 239 residential units."

That gentrification graphic makes me want to throw up in my mouth. Very gross having been to Durham in the bad days that this is even a discussion. City went from a cesspool of poverty and crime to a hardly tolerable downtown today. Be happy people actually want to move downtown, or else you can look like High Point

I agree with you, but also there is the issue of lack of affordable housing, and there have been some affordable housing downtown that's been torn down for new luxury apartments. The city is working to address the issue of affordable housing.

^^ Not fast, NIMBYs stirring the pot. Development downtown is still slow. We aren't talking about seattle or long island city pace of change.
