I want to see this baby go up, but the economy scares me, kind of reminds me of Bruce's song, " Glory Days ".

Yeah, because Kelleher has to run the risk of some stupid kid falling into the hole just to 'keep the faith,' right? Terrible sign indeed.

If they're aware of this thread... perhaps they were concerned
that one of us might throw ourselves into the hole.

You know, like in those old movies where the virgin
throws herself into the volcano.

Well I say that because if further construction was imminent (as some in this thread firmly believe) there would be no reason to spend a few grand on a chain link fence, right?

^ $2000 / $2,000,000,000 = 0.000001. I'd say it's a good expenditure, even if for just a few weeks.

Also notice the new fence is back from the hole by 3 feet or so, they could be building it to allow better access to the hole (no fence near the edge to get hooked on) if they start working at the bottom.

Or will they start to work on some other stuff in the mean time?

Maybe there are so many idle construction jobs and equipment, they are getting awesome deals on labor and equipment, and will work on some other stuff while things are sorted out?

If you needed a Scoopy Scoop for 1000 hours, it is normally $1,000/hr. and you got it for $600/hr., you just saved $400,000. And maybe instead of $60/hr. for a Scoopy Scoop operator, you can find someone who will drive in from Milwaukee for $45/hr., saving you another $15,000.

Can't you just hire non-union workers? are there laws forcing you to hire unionized workers?

There is no law forcing them to use union labor, but if they didn't I betcha there wouldn't be any material deliveries to the site--as all of the truck drivers are union.

That and there would probably be a riot.

^^
Don't forget the ridiculous "inflatable rat" that they haul to the entrance of the construction site. It isn't quite The Sopranos, but there are plenty of burly men that stand around outside and make life miserable for anyone that does work.

Let's hope the banking crisis gets better soon.

The marketing department said sales are well north of the 30% figure last reported. The Chicago Spire is a great investment compared to stocks at the moment. Now that the penthouse sale ($40,000,000.00) more than doubled the record spent on a Chicago area home you will see the smart money move into getting a unit in this tower.
Spire has been well north of 30% for one quarter now it seems like

And I don't know if the Penthouse was sold at 40m as advertised

Smile i am in town

Hiya friends,

landed savely in Chicagoland on Tuesday afternoon just to see it drown in rain, lol. But thank god the weather improved and i had a very pleasent Wednesday with visiting the Field Museum and in the afternoon glory sunshine awaited me when i left the Museum. So i took the chance to visit the John Hancock skydeck an see the sunset in an amazing way. This morning i walked to see the Elysian in person and it didnt look as bad as many of you said it would. Now i am in an internet cafe to keep you up to date and afterwards seeing BVic for a nice river cruise on one of the boats. So to resume my stay so far it was great and also met some very friendly Chicagoans and surprisingly a lot of fellow germans too. So see you in town
