It's like they put the grandpa with his grandson in there just to dispel that very thought.

After reading the full report, I feel better about it. They seem to have put in a lot of thought into it.

The industrial "pulper" salvaged from the site and metal archway are nice touches.

The coop housing is a little iffy. Lots of shared bathrooms. Small kitchens (with a few larger ones). Not sure how that will do in the new world.

For those interested, here's the architecture firm's website:

http://www.teeplearch.com/work/

Lots of post-secondary institutional buildings (as per Kevin's comment). The only Ottawa projects I could find was the Algonquin College Student Commons and Chrétien's National Portrait Gallery.

Also, a Langara College building that's very similar to the original proposal for block 207:

Actually, that and the guy in the wheelchair kinda make it look like a hospital campus.

I posted these in the Canadian Skyline Thread a few hours ago, but just realized they'd belong here as well.

It's going to be a long time until this is an attractive location.

They've made some significant progress over the last two years. With the completion of the office tower u/c in Ottawa, the rental tower u/c in Gatineau and those two latest proposals on Chaudière Island, the Booth-Eddy axis will be virtually done.

The Gatineau side will take longer, but that's not necessarily a bad thing because that piece of empty real-estate has been a fantastic asset over the last few years, with Cirque du Soleil, the Drive-In and many other events.

I thought so too, but then I biked down there on the weekend and was very surprised at how much is already done, or close to done. The aerials don't give a great idea of what is happening on the ground.

The Gatineau part does have the big empty lots on the city side, but the area on the river side between the condo and the bridge has come along nicely. They have done an incredible job refurbishing the historic industrial building next to the condo, it it appears open and ready to go. Same story on the island. There is work to be done on the pedestrian/cycling bridge, but things are really coming together.

It is starting to have the vibe of a more interesting Distillery District, given the setting on the water, and the variety of historic buildings. No doubt it will take lots of years to fully build out, but it's a very big site and I wouldn't be surprised if it is looking good by next summer.

They removed scaffolding from that facade they were restoring.

For comparison, 2019 and 2017:

...
The "eyebrow" over all but one of the first floor windows is an interesting quirk.

I took a closer look the other day, it's a layer of sticky tape, likely applied during the repair process, and 'forgot' to remove.

Those are only the parking lots you can see - there are more under all of those federal, provincial and municipal office buildings. I wonder if Gatineau has the most parking lots per capita in Canada? It would look good on the welcome to Gatineau signs.

I have no way to back this up, but not likely. Ever been out west?

I have no idea what this is all about. Gatineau's downtown does not have an excess of surface parking period. A lot of the few remaining parking lots have been filled with development in the last few years. It's really a bizarre thread.

Yes and places with empty parking lots all over look like crap. One view of Gatineau skyline says it all. It's really bad

Pangishimo park. They poured some footings. Not sure what for.
Good to see it progressing. Hopefully they open the bridge to the War Museum as soon as it's ready.

Future main square with some fountains or something.
This building looks rather ugly.

The old facade was beautifully restored, but I agree the new building seems a little too suburban industrial park. It might look better once the other nearby buildings and the square are completed.

Are there any recent renders for this building?
Ville de Gatineau website doesn't have any dev app information unfortunately...
