Climbing the 14th St hill south of 17th Ave may have been an issue.
Especially in winter.

There are many pictures in the various local archives of the buses, trollies and streetcars that came northbound down the 14th St hill, missed that corner, and slammed into the drug store on the N.E. corner.

And a few photos of northbound cars & trucks that slid through that intersection & hit the nearby buildings.

I think the last photo would make it look too much like a urinal from the Calgary Tower.

as-built was an improvement.

Remember this?

Yeah, you might recognize it... because we only got the lower half...

I thought it was eventually supposed to be expanded to that!?! I meant to post about that a few weeks ago. Dang. I really wish we had some nice Asian-inspired architecture in this city like Vancouver does.

It would have been pretty striking as you walk/drive over the Louise Bridge.

I remember reading somewhere that the lower half was only the first of two phases. They were going to build on top of it at a later date. Does anyone recall hearing the same thing or am I remembering incorrectly?

That sounds right, but there's a question of whether or not that will ever happen...

A near copy of Edmonton Trail's split. 9A would have likely developed into a retail street which may or may not have been good. Some changes will need to be made to the Memorial/10th St/Kensington Rd intersection eventually though as during rush hour it's a mess.
