Vancouver Island - Tofino - Ucluelet - God's Pocket

As part of our west coast adventure, we decided to do a little tour of Vancouver Island. A very special part of this was an invitation to God's Pocket dive resort off of the very north tip of the island, by way of Port Hardy. If you are a diver, this is a must hit location (https://www.godspocket.com)

Enjoy

We left Vancouver by way of the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal in West Vancouver, landing in Departure Bay Nanaimo.

Just north of Nanaimo is Parksville (great beaches/camping) and a must stop at this local market....WAIT FOR IT...Did you see it?

After a beautiful winding drive from Parksville, we arrived in Tofino. It is a very popular spot for camping and surfing.

We then passed on the famous Long Beach and decided to try Combers Beach and as luck would have it, we were the only people there! It was surreal and felt other worldly.

I am explorer

We then proceeded to Ucluelet (I still can't pronounce it right). A less touristy, more authentic surf and fishing town.

A place for crab cakes and chowder... and Tsunamis

The next day we drove east and then north until the highway literally ends in Port Hardy.

Hopped on the 'Ratfish' and headed out into the Queen Charlotte Straight.

We were then greeted by God's Pocket.

Even Monster was able to relax.

Off the grid, it provided me with time to reflect, talk to owls and swim with orcas or something.

Now this is the life!

Typically a dive resort for international tourists, we were fortunate enough to have it nearly to ourselves.

It was a sight to behold when these fish pushed the minos into the bay and up against the rocks before eating them. This occurred for hours.

We had 4 eagles watching over us the whole time.

Multiple humpback whales passed by, sadly no breaching, but still amazing to see from the dock.

After that it is Japan.

Ah the good life.

Back to reality...

YVR and Mount Baker in WA.

Bowen Island just NW of Vancouver

Vancouver from about 8-10NM out

Awesome tour! Thanks. I have to make it to the west coast, sooner rather than later.

Nice! I'll be doing an almost identical road trip in a few weeks - this got me pretty excited for it.

I would love to visit God's Pocket someday. Did that drive time include the ferry ride? Excellent post.

That it did. What you see it total travel time with the exception of the 20-25mins boat ride from Port Hardy to G.P.

Great photos, thanks for sharing. Check out the Nootka Sound area if you ever get a chance (to the north of Tofino on the west coast of the island), it's a little more rugged and definitely more isolated. Also Strathcona park in the middle of the island is awesome.

Nice road trip! How long was the ferry ride, and how much did it cost?

The crossing is about 1hr 40 and a normal car is around $60.
