The new elevations are with the released site plan now. The hotel portion was down sized which would account for a chunk of the height reduction.

This appears to be the new 33-story version. Although the project summary from the architects brochure in the link below the rendering has the old building info.

http://bklarchitecture.com/wp-conten...ure_2015-2.pdf

I first thought the "new" rendering was the old 2014 rendering that was previously posted by LoneStarMike. But notice how the podium is now one floor shorter and three hotel levels were eliminated

Really interested to see what hotel operator ends up here, based on some of our earlier conversation. The room count is small for a convention participant, but a great size for a boutique or luxury/upscale. This could be an Andaz, or a Conrad. I would've put an Autograph here, too.

Andaz seems viable to expand Hyatt's presence, and it was identified a number of years back anyway.

Hilton has an interesting new brand called Canopy that I think would fit in well here too.

IHC's new brand called EVEN appears to have the look similar to the renderings, and their other locations keep the room count pretty small while located in fairly busy areas.

All in all, as mentioned elsewhere, luxury capacity seems pretty well topped off with what's in the pipeline.

I like the Canopy suggestion, especially. Hilton needs more representation downtown.

Is this project still going to be dual-branded as was originally proposed?

It looks like it could still be dual-branded. Page 40 of the site plan has the lobby layout. There is a drop off zone and hotel lobby on each side of the building, and each lobby has its own bank of elevators.

I like it. Nice clean lines and a human scaled podium.

Yea the podium does look like it's scaled down to the size of a human...

Seriously though, the building looks like it could be the offspring of the W and the JW...

I actually think the balcony portion will turn out pretty cool. That part of it reminds me of one of their buildings in Chicago called "Coast", which has a very clean, modern look. The balcony glass also appears to be aqua colored, which would be a nice differentiation. As with many of the recent towers in Austin, I wish this one would take the rectangular end and stack it on top... Like this:

I like the shorter podium, I like the continuous balconies, I don't like that add on looking piece.

This would be another rendering of the latest 33-story version. It's from Magellan's Chinese financial partner's website:

It looks very...1960s to me. I was in Houston today, and I gotta say this reminds me of their ExxonMobil Building that was built in 1963.

60s Honolulu or Miami. This is its better side though. I want to dislike it but its proportioned well, and the long balcony lines remind me of Monarch's. I just noticed the square tile work on the podium, looks like the wall of a bath house, and that looks pretty dated to me, but at least its one color. The notch with the 4 beams is cool. I like the transition between the hotel and the condos better the the W's. The glass that extends to the top on the other side is pretty cool too. It does look dated, too bad it falls short of retro. Could have added some curves and baby blue and pink accents, Miami style.

After the site plan was approved in July I was hoping that we would get an update about a groundbreaking from Magellan. But it appears there may be another change coming to this project. The site plan released in July included a floor count reduction to 33 floors and a reduced hotel room count to 266. But earlier this week (10/11) another filing was made to update the plans for "...updating unit mix and elevations." The request was denied on procedural grounds, so it's still in progress.

The proposed update to the site plan (See my previous post.) was recently approved. It appears the height has increased to 375' after the height was reduced in the previously approved and released site plan from just over 400' to 356'.

Glad this is still in motion. That's one of my least favorite parking lots in town.

I really wish this was going to be taller though. We getting too many bulky rectangles. Still it's better than what's there now.
