I'm looking to start playing hockey again, would the ASHL be my best bet? The highest level I played was Midget AA, although I'm probably more of a Midget B player - what would that correlate to on their ABCDE scale?

The WJHL is great for hockey. It is the league I play in now, and it has multiple divisions with all sorts of variations in terms of talent. It is also extremely organized if that is your thing.

Here is the website. They keep up to date with all the stats you would expect professionally, so it only adds to the entertainment value. Plus there are 2-3 games a week which really keeps you in shape.

The only downside for me is that it is at the Iceplex, and that is a 45 minute bus ride from downtown, plus a 15 minute walk (that involves crossing the perimeter) with a hockey bag and stick in tow.

In terms of what level you feel you should play, across the city AA would equate to A, B, C depending on what you are looking for. I could arguably play in an A or B division. But I would much rather play in B, or C (especially depending on the team behind me vs. the teams in my division). Seeing as that it is no contact it is really a finesse game at the end of the day. What are your skill sets as a hockey player!?

I am also excited to note that I got accepted to tryout for the Red Bull Crashed Ice tournament. I have been trying for a few years now so I am really looking forward to it!

I haven't played organized in 4 years buy my biggest weakness was the physical part of the game, so I think I'll do okay in whatever league I decide. I noticed there are quite a few free agents listed on the website... is your team looking for anyone? I played defence reguarly but was also forward for powerplays, so I'm fairly versatile.

Sure, let me talk to the guy who heads our team. Its over email, so I won't be able to get back to you until tomorrow probably. I will let you know right now our team isn't very good. But it has a couple of solid players, and we could always use one more.

Our next game is by Friday, so I will let you know before then. It will cost you a couple hundred up front, and then a couple hundred later on. 4 something for the entire year I believe.

Nobody talking about the fact Google updated maps for Winnipeg (and only Winnipeg)?

Before Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, etc. We're the only Canadian city to get this so far.

Maranda loves rainbows. Rainbows are universal and they connect the world! Almost everyone has seen and knows what a rainbow is. To Maranda rainbows are happiness and connectedness to other people. Maranda is a 10-year –old- girl with an undiagnosed syndrome. Part of her illness is caused by Microcephaly, a medical condition in which the head is smaller than normal because the brain has stopped growing.Children with microcephaly may have mental retardation, delayed motor functions and delayed speech, facial distortions, dwarfism and short stature, hyperactivity, seizures, difficulties with co-ordination and balance, and other brain or neurological abnormalities. Some children with microcephaly will have decreased life expectancy. Maranda has had a long list of medical difficulties and repeated illnesses and tests, rounds of doctor appointments, and admissions to hospitals. She has seen some of the best genetic doctors and specialists in the world. So far, no one has been able to determine what kind of syndrome or medical condition Maranda has, what her prognosis is, or how to treat her.

Maranda was adopted at the age of two and lives with her mother Crystal and her sister Makayla in Regina, SK. CANADA. Makayla was also adopted and is 14. She also has many health related difficulties and is currently undergoing treatment, but she is much more private about these things. (It’s a teenage thing!) Crystal. Makayla and Maranda, live with their one dog and two cats, Max, Mimzy and Macaroni. They would love to travel the world some day. Makayla would love to go to Kenya and Harry Potterland and Maranda would like to go to Paris and DisneyWorld. Maranda is obsessed with the Eiffel Tower and all things Disney! These two little girls are the kindest, sweetest, most compassionate girls. They are very charitable and giving. Constantly thinking of others and how to make the world a better place. Makayla and Maranda may not be biological sisters, but they are true sisters of the heart. If you ask one what their wish is, it is always that the other sister’s wish comes true!

Please draw, make or take a photo of a rainbow and send it along to Maranda. Be sure to include your name and where you are from. She does the happy dance whenever the mail arrives!

Devon Clunis has been chosen as our next police chief. This has me very excited as he attends my church, and from what I have seen is a very outstanding citizen. I am looking forward to his years in leadership.

City Hall is quickly falling into disarray. I have never seen such bad display of management. At least not since looking into my own bank account statements.

City will not release Civic Centre Parkade reports

The City of Winnipeg has refused to allow two Winnipeg media outlets access to engineering reports about the shuttered Civic Centre Parkade.
In August, the city shuttered the 46-year-old parkade due to structural concerns, citing potential safety issues. Within days, both the Winnipeg Free Press and radio station CJOB -- acting independently from each other -- filed freedom-of-information requests seeking access to engineering reports.
In a letter dated Sept. 28, the city denied the Free Press request for structural inspection reports for the parkade, dating back to 2009, when the Winnipeg Parking Authority’s business plan called for the structure to be repaired.
The city denied the Free Press request, claiming the information fell under the "advice to government" exemption and could also harm the city’s "economic and other interests." A similar request filed by CJOB was also denied, the radio station reported.
Up until 2010, the Civic Centre Parkade was earmarked for $6.2 million worth of repairs. In 2011, council voted to reserve $2 million from the $24-million sale of the Winnipeg Square Parkade for waterproofing and concrete work.

So let me get this straight, the city wanted to spend over $11 million to re-hab. a 46 old parkade to extend it's life up to 15 years. Would a new parkade even cost that much? Who runs this city?

After already pumping in a couple hundred thousand into it over the last couple of years. The question is -and it is one that most people are saying yes too- while spending the money over the last couple of years to keep it up, did the city know it would be shut down in due time, unless formidably repaired?

This leads to another question, why have they been letting citizens use the parkade if there was in fact a safety concern?

Good question chris, why the secrecy with a publicly owned building, obviously the public was at risk and certain people with the city knew it, another shit show out of city hall and this time right at city hall.

Really don't know what our city council is there for if they are not asking the tough questions, thanks to Bart at the Free Press for pursuing this.

Parkades are expensive, but i believe $11 million could build one with approximately 250 spaces. That would not include demo though.

That is the real boot to the head, even if the demo cost $10 million, (which is an extremely high estimate) that brings the project to double the cost. But that would give us another 40-50 years of parking space rather than fifteen.

That isn't really what irks me though. Bad management is just a matter of incompetence. Secrecy is an act of purposefully keeping something from the publics eye. It is the secrecy behind city hall that makes me quiver more than anything. Was there not new legislation introduced which says that all information must become publicly accessible upon request? You would think that a situation such as this would not be exempt to face public scrutiny. In fact I would say it is situations such as this that lead to this new legislation.

I am glad to see this as well. I know his father-in-law quite well and have met him a couple of times.

He also gets points in my book because he doesn't drive to work. He is either on his bike or on the Henderson Express buses. Hopefully that doesn't stop just because he is the top cop.

I don't think it will. He is a very humble person. He is as honest a man as you will ever find. The good news is we can rest soundly knowing that there will be no backdoor deals or anything negative happening behind doors.

This may not mean anything to a lot of people, but he is a devout Christian, in that he follows the principles of Christianity very strongly. To the point where he and a few other officers have a prayer group within the service. They have all committed to praying in a group before each shift.

Like I said, it may not mean anything to some, but just be rest assured that his faith is what allows him to be such an honest, outstanding citizen. A better chief could not have been found.
