Yeah, I feel as if this city is on the verge of "rupturing" when it comes to more construction. The more, the merrier!!

I am very happy with these newly released numbers for the city.

Here are the stats Canada link

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/91-214-...0/t075-eng.htm

It really shows that the city is growing again. Hopefully we can keep this pace up.

Interesting that there is only two shrinking major cities in the entire country.

Well if Winnipeg keeps up the pace of the last few years we will surpass Quebec City and move into 7th. I also find it interesting how there are a bunch of million+ cities then 3 cities at about 750,000, then everything else below 480,000. Winnipeg, Quebec City and Hamilton are rather unique in their size.

The population of Winnipeg CMA, as of today is most likely over 750,000. Perhaps it is closer to 755,000. All I know is this number will continue to increase for the next few years, as the economy is relatively strong in Manitoba, and the housing shortage will lure more tradespeople here, especially from Alberta, BC, and Ontario.

I can see many Icelanders settling in Manitoba in the next years. The economy is in ruins in Iceland, and the desired location from Icelandic immigrants seems to be Winnipeg and the Interlake.

PS...Look at the growth of Saskatoon!!!

^^Yeah, our growth in sheer numbers does not look so good based on Saskatoon's population compared to ours. Our number should be double that of 'toon.

Don't look at one or two years in isolation. Think longer term... Don't measure Winnipeg to other cities that are experiencing boom times.

We sure love beating ourselves up...

Damn, 742,400 people. That's pretty dang good. The Peg is shaping up to be quite a big city.

Probably 15-20 years from now Winnipeg will reach one million. (Maybe by that time F-M will reach 300,000)

We are seeing some very good growth here. I think Winnipeg will soon pass Quebec City and in about 15-20 years we will be at or above one million souls!!!

That would really be quite something. And to think just 10 years ago, people would have called us crazy if we suggested Winnipeg's population would hit 750,000 by 2010.

I just find it exciting that for the first time since I can recall, Winnipeg seems to be in position to become a booming city. I think it will be sustainable. There are many naysayers in the city, but I have a feeling that will change in time.

If we can fix the downtown core, and make it safer and more resident-friendly, I believe it will go a long way to entice people from other parts of Canada to relocate here.

Awesome. I'm actually 1/4 Icelandic, so maybe I will have a chance to meet my distant relatives!

Iceland's total population is 320,000 people. I very much doubt that immigration from Iceland will have a hugh effect on Manitoba's population. Even with their economy in big trouble right now there will not be a mass exodus. Perhaps 1 or 2 %, which would mean 6400 people. And of that, only a percentage would come to Manitoba. So realistically Manitoba may gain a 1000 or so people from Iceland ... which are entirely welcome.
