That first pic is a beautiful postcard view. I couldn't figure out where it was until I realized they had completely changed or rebuilt the two houses on the corner.

Thank you! A few more. I never got to these yesterday:

April 28, 2013

The blue detail on the side-street fascade of this building is about as adventurous as we've gotten with heritage structures:

The new rising above the old.

I dare say the price is reduced, attached to a property that has probably never been renovated. It's sad - although the houses are protected and the vast majority of renovations return them to a more authentic heritage state, sometimes the beautiful details get lost - as you can see in the difference between these two, previous-identical homes.

As far as I'm aware, the only hospital remaining the downtown core.

Some residents choose to get rid of what little front garden they have in favour of off-street parking spaces. Personally, I hate it. Hopefully the city will ban the practice eventually.

Hi Everyone! I am moving from BC to St John's this week, and I've been lurking this forum for a few weeks now.

I've got to say, this photo thread makes me feel like I'm there already! There's been soooo many amazing shots, I can't wait to get there and see it all in person! Anyone want to be a tour guide and help a sister out?

Oh wow, that's a HUGE move. Any one of us would love to show you around, I'm sure. I was going to type *wink, nudge* as a joke, but I don't want to scare you,

A few of us (Ayreonaut, Copes, Jeddy1989, and myself) have met in real many few times. We tend to have forum meets about once per month. Ayreonaut is back in Calgary for the summer now but we can certainly arrange another meet to welcome you and show you around.

Since you're new to the city, I'd recommend a lunch-time meet downtown for a quick bite to eat, then a walking tour of downtown, then a driving tour of a couple of the more outlying sights (Signal Hill, Cape Spear, Southside Road, etc.).

Jeddy1989 and I went out for a drive this evening and found ourselves in Mount Pearl. On our way back to the city, we took Pitts Memorial Drive. Here are a few photos of the drive.

The route we took:

And the photos, in chronological order:

Starting with Mount Pearl to our left, Southlands to our right, and the farmland of the Goulds (part of St. John's) straight ahead:

Heading back into St. John's (specifically, the Kilbride neighbourhood):

Near the Columbus Drive exit, which leads into the core of suburban St. John's (not including separate, suburban municipalities):

Signal Hill finally peeks through the trees:

There she is, b'ys. Downtown St. John's. Approaching from what we call the West (it's actually closer to south), facing what we call east (it's actually closer to north):

Woohoo:

Finally, home:

Oh cool - if you don't mind me asking - why are you moving?

On another note, mannnnn - I wish there could be some more trees along the TCH, particularly along Mount Pearl to create a natural wall between the highway and residential units.

I don't think Pitts is part of the TCH, but I know what you mean. It's barren out there. Or, up there, I guess I should say. The elevation is high through Mount Pearl.

haha yeah, meant to say Pitts. Not TCH. But it's true of the TCH in places too!

I always get excited when I see a new post in this thread because I know i'm in for a real treat!

I've never seen pictures from those angles before! Really, really cool angles! The lighting is great too. I especially like the second one overlooking the lake and downtown. You can even see the top Fortis Place, as well as a few of our elderly highrises in the background. All we need to do is build them a little taller and we'll see them from beyond the hill
