^There has been significant underground work and digging going on at that site for most of the summer. Is it some sort of remediation work? I assume they would want to keep that lot for parking.

Fresh Co would not make sense for the Village Safeway as it does away with most of the prepared meals. You can't even get a grocery store rotisserie chicken there!

I have not heard anything but considering the Village Safeway underwent the "lifestyle" rebranding not that long ago my guess would be doing a banner conversion from Safeway to Sobey's, and maybe Sobey's Extra.

Asked two people yesterday.

  1. Guy on the skyjack doing the sign removal work says "it'll always be a Safeway" or something like that.
  2. One of the cashiers said some nonsense about "that would be illegal as it breaks the agreement/contract between Sobeys and Safeway".
I guess "mums the word" until we actually see the new signage.

O am surprised nobody posted this yet.
This would be great for the city and especially St Boniface and to some degree, downtown.
Winnipeg city hall gets first look at massive St. Boniface development proposal

Calgary's Olexa Developments has presented a plan to Winnipeg city's council's planning and development committee to redevelop the Public Markets site, in the St. Boniface industrial park. The proposal would includes apartment towers, bungalow condos and townhomes, but no single-family dwellings. (Submitted by Olexa Developments)

There’s an Ai Weiwei sculpture currently under construction at the forks, don’t know if it’s been mentioned but this is awesome news.

It's a cool piece of art on its own but having someone like Ai Weiwei behind it is super impressive, we don't have very many world famous artists putting their works on display in Winnipeg.

It’s very impressive to have such an internationally renowned artist displaying their work here in the city. Forever bicycles, will be here for two years with the possibility of extension, the artist is said to be visiting in the spring. I hope this leads to the possibility of Ai Weiwei being involved with CMHR somehow, either curating an exhibit or being the focus of an exhibit there at the museum would be a huge boost for the city. Would love to see some artists who advocate for human rights on display at the museum.

not sure if this was posted here. I appreciate the added residential on Sherbrook, but I admit that I will miss the old nurses residence. It is a beautiful Modernist building.

The new building leaves little to be desired.

^I have no idea, but there are few interesting businesses popping up on Wall Street lately. Looks like a good space for some sort of restaurant, cafe or retail operation.
