St. Louis is about to become the Midwest's second city to have a Four Seasons Hotel. The project is currently under construction.

Executives of Las Vegas-based Pinnacle Entertainment announced yesterday that they had reached an agreement to have their hotel operate under the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts flag. The 24-story state-of-the-art hotel, which will be illuminated at night, is an anchor of Pinnacle's massive casino just north of Laclede's Landing. "The tower will be illuminated from within at night with a striking arc of light, creating a new square icon in the downtown skyline."

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, Pinnacle's casino and resort, named Lumière Place, is expected to be open for business by the end of this year. The hotel will be atop a new parking garage, with views overlooking downtown St. Louis. The hotel will have 200 rooms and a 12,000-square-foot spa. Several restaurants will also be on site including an upscale steakhouse.

In November, Pinnacle announced subsequent phases to the 20-acre development could top $1 billion. The first phase is nearly $500-million. Additional phases, based on market demand, include plans for eight residential buildings totaling 375 condos, and 220,810 square feet of commercial space.

This is great news for the city. I'm not one for status symbols, but in the hospitality business, this is certainly a sign that St. Louis has arrived at a certain level of prestige.

In my humble opinion, as the Midwest's "Second City", this is very positive development.

Booming might be a bit of an overstament, but it's still great to see this growth and the addition of the Four Seasons will only make it better.

I drive past this construction site every day, and they are really coming along. The view from downtown and the 70 isn't going to be all that great (mostly parking garage unless you're back a bit). The view from the south will be the money shot.

I hope the cladding looks better once it's all put up, because the bit that I can see from the freeway looks very bland.

I just read that part of the problem in getting the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis lied with the Lodge at Four Season at the Lake of the Ozarks. Apparently, they owned the name "Four Seasons" in Missouri but luckily a deal has been reached.

There were four of these flatbeds on the street next to the site. I don't think it's cladding because of the size of the panels. Anyone have any ideas as to what the panels are for?

I know the cladding is supposed to look great when finished, but as of right now...WTF IS GOING ON? It just looks like randomly dispersed darkness amidst a see of light green. Im holding out final opinion until it is finished. I really hope this building does a 180 towards iconic status for the correct reasons.

I have to admit I'm not real thrilled with the way this project is turning out. I drive by it twice a day on I-70 and have watched it go up. The glass is rather poor quality and this whole swoosh crown just is looking more tacky by the day. It certainly looks better from the river side which is where people will enter the casino from.

There's also been a touch of controversy because of the hiring practices of this place. Basically you need to be pretty easy on the eyes to have a shot at working here. (it's a casino, what the hell did people expect). The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ran a front page piece that stated "Unattractive Need Not Apply".

Why are there lounge chairs in the shallow fountain?

The view of the Arch is stunning.

I think the rendering looked better than the final product but it is pretty nice nonetheless.

That's a great hotel to have in a city and is a testament to a good local economy.
