The rental market, unfortunately, isn't very strong anywhere--even in Winnipeg. From what I understand, the number of residential units has dropped in the last couple decades. Certainly troubling news, anyway, to those of us who'd like to see more residential development of any description.

there is no money in rentals....the inflated cost of new construction has ensured that rental properties will likely be from renovation not new buildings....the math doesnt work.

rent control is not entirely to blame, but i could do without it.

i have dealt with 3 or 4 clients in the past few years who have wanted to build rentals in osborne and downtown...all of them were eventually abandonned because the numbers just dont work....you dont recouperate your capital cost investment fast enough.

Exactly, it makes no sense to wait ten or fifteen years for your investment to pay off when you can build condos and make money before even starting construction.

That's an interesting note on the people wanting to build, trueviking. Good to hear the desire is there.

rumor has it that a successful Corydon area salon will be relocating to the exchange district, expanding their services and incorporating a spa....an address on Main St is likely.

Funny .. a friend of mine was saying something along that line to me the other day as well, although he said it was a second location.

well, the original location will likely remain, under a new management and new name. As for which space the new location will open in, I am not sure, but I'll try to find out. I doubt union tower. I was thinking perhaps the old Ronald's shoes building.

That would be so nice; I feel sorry for that building; kinda like the christmas tree on the Charlie Brown Christmas--LOL. That would be a charming little salon, and the perfect use for this small building. It needs a dramatic color scheme on the outside so it will pop--stand out and say "I am small, but I know how to use it"...you know...

The MacDonald Shoes building (Ronald Shoes was/is on Osborne south isn't it?) will soon have a new tenant but it won't be a spa ...

Good to hear that something is moving into that space. I think you are right about the name. Ronald's Shoes is on South Osborne.
