For Vancouver there are probably very few, if any, that would be internationally recognized but if there were to be a top 15 they would be the following (in no particular order):

1) Harbour Centre

web.downtownvan.com/index.asp?p=11

2) Canada Place

Mine

3) Science World

www.downtownvancouver.com

4) One Wall Centre

Mine

5) Shaw Tower

6) Marine Building

7) Sun Tower

8) Dominion Building

9) Law Courts

10) BC Place

11) Vancouver Public Library

www.vancouverbnb.com

12) Hotel Vancouver

13) Cathedral Place
on the left...

Mine

14) Vancouver Museum/Planetarium/H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

15) City Hall

There are probably some better examples that I'm completely forgetting.

I have to disagree with you about the recognition of buildings in Vancouver. Granted I have spent some time Vancouver, but having one of the world's most beautiful skylines I imagine many people worldwide can recognize several of the buildings in your post. I actually recognized most of them.

Its the Aon Center, theres nothing special about it, a normal person would think its a building from New York or one of the World Trade Center Towers had they seen a picture of it.

I like it, but it is the bastard child of Chicago Supertalls. It has a wonderful presence, but as far as "defining" Chicago architecture, I had a hard time placing it before any of those 15.

I agree with you list Alliance, but I would put Aon on there before IBM because the list is by what buildings would make people automatically know where they are. IBM is the generic black box style and, though dramatically different looking from our perspective as skyscraper geeks, most people couldn't tell apart IBM, the ones in Illinois Center, and the courthouse, let alone the countless copies in other cities.

Five years ago I would say Aon shouldn't be on this list, but since the completion of Millennium park and the bean, countless pictures of the Randolf Street wall are now being used to represent Chicago. It's fame has certainly gone up since then. I think 2 pru might even deserve to be on that list if you do it by buildings that people identify with your city because of this same MP effect.

I thought it would make the cut based off it's distinct presence. I personally like that architecture, but many people do not.

I agree, I dont think the IBM building should have made it on there.

I also agree, with the countless new tourist photos of the Bean and the rest of Millenium Park, 1Pru, 2Pru and Aon Center cluster should easily be reconizible now. I take back my word on the Aon Center.

15 is too much, even in Sao Paulo billion of bldgs has, maybe just 7, not really in this order, identifies really the city, as uncommon abroad, that not mix as beeing in another city:
--------------------1-Masp museum
---------------2-Fiesp bldg
--3-Conjunto Nacional
------------------4-Prédio da Dacon
--------------------5-TV Globo Antenna ontop of Gazeta Bldg
--------6-Copan
----------------------7-Ed. & Terraco Itália

In Munich is easier to identify some, but also not 15:

----------------------------------------------------1-BMW Hochhaus
2-Olympiapark Stadium
----------------------3-Allianz Arena Stadium
----------------------------------------------4-Frauenkirche

In future maybe BMW Welt as 5th Place
