San Jose's issue is that the airport is so close to downtown. That is a unique situation. They'd probably have much taller buildings if not for that.

Tech companies for whatever reason mostly build suburban office campuses no matter what city they are in.

Nice pictures... thank you for posting these new update pics!!! Love to see the new additions to Sac! Hopefully we will see some more groundbreaking soon!! I like these new buildings actually... just wish they would have added a little more height but so does everyone else who love tall buildings and highrise architecture... Anyway thank you once again to everyone who posts pics and updates.

What's up SACTOWN! I'm a San Jose native who is a HUGE FAN OF THE KINGS SINCE 2002 (I'm in my mid/late 20's now). I came up on a day trip to Lake Tahoe today from San Jose and I stopped by Sacramento to see how you guys are doing! I actually haven't done that much research to the development going on with you guys except for the new MLS stadium. I was VERY surprised that you guys are about to complete on a VERY NEW modern glass high rise! CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm sure that "V" shape on the side of the building will be LED lit. Really good addition to your skyline at night if so

Here are some of the photos I took.

Bottom floor of the new high rise (not sure of the name, sorry)

--

You have a new mid-rise building adjacent to Golden 1?

--

What's this project accross from Golden 1? Is it going to be a high rise or just a 6 story apartment? I have a feeling it's going to be short due to the size of the cranes...

--

This one is probably a topped out building south of the Capitol building?

--

I can try to trek up again sometime soon for more additional pictures. I'll continue to lurk around your part of the forum from now on too Go Kings!

--
EDIT:

Also, someone should edit the wiki when they have time!

Thanks for the great photos. You are right about the building next to the arena and the one by the highrise. Both are midrises, the former being a hotel and the latter being residential.

Two other significant projects are the renovation of the theater and the expansion of the convention center.

Next two significant projects should hopefully be the MLS stadium and the new courthouse which will be 18ish stories--both in the railyards.

Those are great memories, when the Emerald Tower was the beginning of
a changing skyline.

Sacramento Commons (Phase 1) Construction at 5th & O Streets will be a 7-story, stand 84-feet high, mixed-use residential building.

Anthem Cathedral Square @ 1030 J St., Construction of a seven-story apartment building with 153 units, about 10,000 square feet of first-floor retail and a 103-stall parking lot. Amenities will include a fitness center, rooftop deck, lounge and central courtyard. A handful of empty two-story buildings on the site have been demolished. This site was once where Cathedral Square, a 26 story condo was proposed in 2004.

Richards Boulevard State Office Construction 1.3 million sq. ft. state office buildings development that will house several state departments. The ground and foundation work is currently under way with completion in March 2024.

Safe Credit Union Convention & Preforming Arts Centers Construction

The stretch of 13th Street between J & K Streets looks to be a new dead space where a 60 foot wall now stands. This area use to have both a coffee shop & café and lots of outside seating, but now it appears to be sterile sidewalk... the forgotten west side.

Hyatt House Hotel Construction @ 2719 K Street - The project is located across from Sutter's Fort State Historic Park. The original building was built in 1928 and three stories. The existing brick façade will remain and a new 8 story hotel will be inserted inside. Cost of construction $26.7 million

‘Swing Space’ Office Building Construction @ 10th & O Street - the exterior skin looks much different from the renderings.

Powerhouse Science Center Construction @ 400 Jibboom St. - $50 million project is expected to open early 2021 opening along the banks of the Sacramento River.

The Frederic @ 601 Capitol Mall Construction - This eight floor project appears to be working on the fifth floor and will soon offer 162 condominiums and nearly 5,800 square feet of retail.

Nice pics, Mike. A lot of foot-walking involved here. Much appreciated. That being said... I truly am at awe at just how uninspiring most of it is. Everything is back to square boxes. The 50s all over again. The Convention Center is a true yawner. All the state office projects, save the Natural Resources Building, are 50s, square-box copy-cats. The blue glass is kinda catchy though.

Thumbs up

Oh man, I'm really bummed about that new dead space on 13th between J & K. I used to bike past that stretch every day when I lived on 13th St, and it was always super lively during lunch time. Now it's just some giant grey wall. The least they can do is let someone do a cool giant mural on it so it doesn't look so dead and boring.

Other than that, photos look great. Haven't had a chance to visit these sites lately so it's nice to see how far they've come along. Thanks for sharing

What dead wall on 13th?

I am mixed on my views of the new buildings. The Swing Space is super boring as are the tops of the hotels but glad they retained the historic fronts.

The Convention Center and Theater may not be radical designs but I love that they will have a much better pedestrian friendly design in the way they will extend and open to the street (glazing is a nice touch).

Anyone notice the midrise on E and 16? Doing a full mural on at least two sides, I think. It is a quirkiness I would see in places like Portland so I sort of love it.

How is the new midrise across the river coming along?

Can't wait for the new courthouse and stadium to break ground!

If you scroll up to see innov8's photos of the the convention center, he mentions the space on 13th between J & K has become a new dead zone where there used to be a Starbucks, pizzeria and plenty of outdoor seating.
