A QUICK QUESTION. Last night at Looptopia, I was doing my usual photo spree and since I'm not downtown that often at night, I was having a lot of fun. I wast taking pictures of Hyatt Center for about 10 minutes, then a security gaurd came out and told me I wasn't allowed to take photos of the building! I've taken its picture every time I've walked past the damn thing with a camera. has anyone else have this problem or know WHY its such a big deal?

I bet its got something to do with security risks or something stupid like that. Its a moronic rule no matter how they try to justify it... They can't even do that either since you are in a public space and it is your right to photograph anything you can see as long as you are on public property!

I understand where you're coming from and I did consider waiting. But this project was beginning to hijack the Boom Rundown and it is significant enough, especially considering the site. But if things slow down after this initial rush of euphoria, perhaps Steely could just suspend the thread until more info is known. In the meantime, I think it's acting as a good reliever to the Boom Rundown.

How can you tell anything about the quality of the glass from the render?

I can't belive you guys are complaining about height. 333 Wacker is shorter and gets a tremendous amount of love from critics and non-critics alike. But what is really specacular about this project are the riverside amenities: boat dock, landscaped riverwalk, etc..

This is a stunning addition to Chicago.

^I am not sure that the building, park and boathouse will take up so little room. It is more likely that the builiding will occupy the space where the parking lot currently exists, and the park, boathouse, etc, will be built over the tracks and on the land adjacent to the river. THere is an access road there now for the railroad too, and I am not sure what will happen to that. But there is only about 20 feet from the RR tracks to the river here, so they couldnt possibly fit everything east of the parking lot.

So would 200 N Riverside be the tallest building west of the River's branches? I know there's a couple tall ones around Union Station, but I think that the tallest one is a 600-footer...

Also, 200 N Riverside would be a heck of a terminus for the River's main branch. I'd like to see the River canyon ten years from now, with Waterview, TTC, 300 N LaSalle, and Chicago Spire possibly near the mouth.

Is that 600 feet from the base of the building/plaza or from the level of the river? The article said it was 600 feet above the river, not the ground level in front of the building-wouldn't that shave off some height? I wonder how high the building itself will set above the river level...?

LOVE the design-very graceful and sleek-this is one I cannot help but wish was a little taller..especially with the beautiful curve at the top-deserves to be higher and more prominent.

No, they are different. 333 turns a corner. This one is the wall at the end of the room. It needs more height to complete the river corridor in a grand fashion.

Anyway, for the record, since we're in a new thread, I think the resemblance to Torre Mejor is way too close, and hence I am sour on this proposal despite the fact that it looks elegant (if nothing exceptional).

Yeah there is a similarity to Torre Mayor in Mexico City. But I am so glad this will happen in a nice spot in the city. It would look so nice.

Anyway...

Wow. I always wanted something built there to terminate the river valley...this building will be the ultimate compliment to 333 Wacker.
