I think this project is Reilly's sacrificial lamb to save face so that he can approve a massive development at Holy Name.

Besides, we get to keep some historic buildings, so not much of a loss

Holy Name isn't in Reilly's ward, so this really is all on him. If I were to guess, and of course I could be wrong, I would say wealthy donors who live in his ward persuaded him out of this, per blocked views, etc.

Also, those buildings are doomed. Reilly is still suggesting developing the land, just with something smaller/less dense. They are going to meet their end in the near future.

Last, I'm not trying to call you out or anything. Haha just similarly frustrated as to what someone else had mentioned above; how one person can just block something entirely.

^ Ahh, ok. Ward lines are something I often can't keep track of, with all the corrupt gerrymandering and such.

Still, theses kinds of zoning rejections suck but I will continue to say that there is a bright spot in all of this--it just pushes development pressures further west allowing those lots and 1 story buildings to continue to get developed, as we are already witnessing.

While I'm glad this particular tower didn't get built, I will be upset if the existing historic building stock gets bulldozed for something shorter and less dense.

Hopefully whatever is built on this parcel ends up incorporating the existing facades. I would be happy with that, even if it means getting a squat 200 - 300 footer instead of a slim and tall 725 ft building in order to appease the crying neighborhood NIMBYs.

Unless we get the worst of both worlds... short and squat, and bulldozed history.

In that case, to Mr. Reilly I say...

I totally agree. It's crazy too because Holy Name is in Reilly's ward and the parking lot across the street is not (thankfully). Haha

As of right yes... In terms of the NOF, I don't know. Trying to get extra density was a part of the issue.
