Alatus pitches 40-story apartment tower

Bob Lux has decided to go big.

Lux, the principal at Minneapolis-based Alatus, has submitted preliminary plans to the city to develop a 40-story apartment tower at the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel site near St. Anthony Main. The project is 10 to 15-stories taller than the one he floated for the site a month ago.

The 325-unit apartment project was a late addition to the Minneapolis Planning Commission's Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled July 31st. When the agenda was published last Thursday, this project wasn't on it.

Been a while since anything's been built east of the river. Too bad there wasn't 4-5 floors of office and a little retail.... Would also add to the height! I'll keep my fingers crossed on this one.

Saw that, really hope it happens. Not much has happened of interest...in a very long time. This would certainly stand out due to nothing else being around it.

Saw there are also some shorter towers proposed recently.

Not 'skyscrapers', but more and more 4-8 story buildings going up in some pretty quiet areas. Speaks to the rising costs and scarcity of land in good locations, and the ability to charge accordingly for more expensive buildings.

I think Minneapolis developers are starting to figure out "City Development" might not be a bad investment after all! Still, I wish there was some more office/commercial development in the central area. YA!!

Updated rendering...now 35 floors, as has been publicized. Also, seems that there is something funky with this...I think the parking ramp seen in the rendering is a duplicate of the existing ramp you see in the pic also. The new rendering is just improperly scaled on the satellite image...as there is no room for another ramp, and this proposal is to use the existing ramp. Also, it appears to now be called "skyline".

Maybe someone can make that less...big.

Oh, and an article from August about the decision on the 35 story height....since this was never updated.

I only count 32 floors! We're getting short-changed again.... LOL!! Too bad they couldn't have stayed with the 40+ story version, even though it wasn't officially announced as 40+!

Of course you would say that.

Count again, there are clearly 35 floors there. And the 1st, 4th and 35th are tall floors, and no parking, so this will probably be taller than an average 35 story residential building.

looks great! and at 467' this would be the tallest building east of the river, right? what's the current tallest on the east bank?

That's a great looking tower! Minneapolis will have an impressive second skyline on the east bank of the river.

Yes I believe there is a 30 story tower a block away.

A slight redesign and the tower will be all condos now. Planned to start construction this fall if all goes well.

This will be one of the tallest towers built in Minneapolis since 2007 and everyone is still waiting for the reveal of the 50 story tower which is also supposed to start construction in the later half of 2016. Great to see Minneapolis finally starting to build tall now! (And not just 30 stories)
