Is this a known project?

Site plan filed for a project going by the name of "Austin L5 Hotel" at 209 W 5th Street (home to Smash ATX at the moment). The proposed land use is Hotel/Lounge.

Yep. It's a combo Embassy Suites/Motto.

EDIT: here's the thread: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=250957 It had fallen down to the middle of page two. Too many buildings going up here!

This one will be 362' per these elevations. Eastern face will be a BIG blank wall but should be mostly covered up by the adjacent Indeed building.

This is up for its Density Bonus at next weeks DC meeting. One of the brands changed. It's Embassy Suites and Tempo instead of Motto. It gained 9' but lost two floors. The 30 Floor is an outdoor bar aka "Viewing Area". There are A LOT of street level renderings at this link:

Here are the exterior renderings.

Well, it isn't remarkable but it's a lot better than I expected from an Embassy Suites - I'm guessing Tempo is their up-market brand?

What does it for me is the 30th floor bar. If built today, this would be our highest publicly-accessible space by quite a few floors, wouldn't it?

I'm fairly sure it would be. I believe the rooftop pool bar at the Westin currently holds that title.

It has that signature dark colored narrow strip of nothingness of Embassy Suites.

Yep, says so right on the top of the building if you look closely.

You know what this corner needs? Another blue glass box.

New elevations are out - minor change with a height change from 371' to 368'.

A ROW closure permit for construction was filed this morning. The closure dates haven't been added to the permit yet.

Dates were added to the ROW permit today. The construction time frame is 08/28/2023 through 02/2026. This looks to be the first significant downtown project to break ground this year. The Wilson groundbreaking was for show just like the original supertall proposal.

Lol @ your Wilson dig.

I'm impressed with this project -- it's really been steadily chugging along, while everything else seems to be moving in fits and starts.

I wonder what HIlton is going to do with the Embassy Suites Townlake?
When I first moved to Austin for good, back in 1989, I worked there. Good memories. Due to that experience I always stay at Hilton Brands, and I have been travelling for work since 2007. So I have lots of nights, I've been a Diamond member ever since.
I don't think it will stay an Embassy Suites. I have never seen the Hilton operate 2 Embassy suites in close proximity to one another. Most of the time they will convert old Hilton's and Embassy's to Doubletree's, but... there is also a Double tree fairly close by.

Anyway... just wondering what that hotel will be when this one is completed.

Embassy Suites on South Congress isn't going anywhere. It's a cash cow. These two are just going to have to coexist without cannibalizing each other. And TBH, with the general lack of Hilton product in this town, they shouldn't have it too bad. The pie's probably big enough for both of them.
