Bariloche: Circuito Chico & Swiss Colony

This double-set is dedicated to the Circuito Chico and the Swiss Colony. Both are part of the same region and are intimately connected. The Swiss Colony was founded by inmigrants who came from the Canton of Valais at the end of the 19th Century and it's famous for the El Portal coffee store, who seems like a part of an elf's story, a theme that give its influence to all of the town. Heading to the north is the Circuito Chico, who probably is one of the most photogenic places of Argentina and South America, both for its natural importance at the foot of the Andes and for its zigzagging road (Route 77) and its hidden mansions in the forest. Crowning the entire circuit and standing out among so much beauty is the Llao Llao Hotel, the ultimate masterpiece of the architect Bustillo outside the city of Buenos Aires.

Bariloche: Llao Llao Hotel, Cerro Campanario & Pañuelo Port

Along with the Civic Center, the Llao Llao Hotel is the other recognized postcard of Bariloche. It was built by Alejandro Bustillo, who applied the picturesques style in a colossal magnitude, just like he did in the city of Mar del Plata. Made almost entirely on wood and stone from the region, it has french influenced furniture and it's surrounded by a golf course and large landscapes design by the german architect Hermann Botrich. Also in this set, the Pañuelo Port, which is the starting point for the cruises who navigate the Nahuel Huapi Lake, aswell as those who cross into Chile. And finally, the Cerro Campanario, who has some of the best views of the Bariloche Region and the Cordillera de los Andes.

Two videos from the bus: the first one from the Airport to the Downtown of Bariloche and the second about the full route of the Line 20, passing through the Bus Terminal, the Civic Center, the coast and the end at the Llao Llao Hotel

Bariloche: Gutiérrez Lake & Elf Waterfall

The Gutiérrez Lake is of glacial origin, being a Moraine-dammed lake. The lake is connected to Nahuel Huapi Lake. It was named by explorer and naturalist Francisco P. Moreno as an homage to his academic mentor Juan María Gutiérrez. The lake harbors several species of trout including rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout which attract anglers from the world over. Despite being nowhere near any ocean and being at high altitude, the lake is also home to the kelp gull and the blue-eyed cormorant (Phalacrocorax atriceps), otherwise strictly marine birds. The lake’s clear waters are very susceptible to climate change and have an average surface temperature of 45 °F (7 °C). Hypothermia is one of the risks bathers must endure. Kayaking is a popular sport on this and adjacent lakes. The lake is located near San Carlos de Bariloche (about 12 km), and it is a popular tourist attraction. It has several good spots for having a picnic or sunbathing.

Route 40: from Bariloche to Villa La Angostura

Now leaving Bariloche, this is the trip to Villa La Angostura, passing through the famous Route 40 (a route who crosses the entire country, from the far south to the far north). You may actually see the contrast between the two landscapes of the Patagonia Argentina: on one side, the orange dessert and, on the other, the rocky mountains and its vegetation.

Villa La Angostura: City Overview

Villa La Angostura is a town located in the south of the province of Neuquén. Just located a couple of kilometers away from the border with Chile through the Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass and with other nearby places such as Bariloche and San Martin de los Andes, it forms a popular tourist corridor during both summer and winter. La Angostura is considered among the main attractions of Argentina's Andean Patagonia not only because of the wooden town itself, but also because of the beauty of its sights. On its west side is the Nahuel Huapi Lake, and to the east, the Correntoso Lake. Both lakes are connected by the Correntoso River, which, with 200 meters of length, is one of the sport fishing destinations around La Angostura. The architecture of the town follows a stylized Alpine wooden style similar to that of Bariloche's city centre. There are shops and restaurants of artisanal products such as chocolate, beer and trout. It's categorised as a mountain village, even though it has approximately 11,000 inhabitants.
