It's been mentioned before, but the building is in serious need of maintenance! Why are they letting this much beloved landmark get so run down?

Read one page back. It does not need to be painted. It only needs a powerwash.

That is the finish and will be for many many years.

It's good to see the sun reach the north face of JHC near the summer solstice

I did read it--a power wash and resealing as needed, but my question is why don't they do it? The tower looks worse all the time. I remember seeing it built and going up to the observatory with two high school friends right after it opened, so I have some perspective here.

It is such a unique building. A brute and beauty at the same time.

Perhaps the yet to be constructed 3WTC if the cross-brace design is kept.

this isn't a direct copy of JHC or anyhting, but the strongly expressed diagonal cross bracing had to have at least taken a little inspiration from JHC.

Without a doubt, my favorite in Chicago! It's just too bad that in many of the skyline shots from the area near the museum it is almost unnoticeable. Guess that says a lot about Chicago that a building like this can disappear in the concrete jungle.

the only time I was in Chicago I was so excited about finally seeing all these great buildings including this tower and it rained the whole time I was there

That sucks. This summer was one of Chicago's clearest and most beautiful. Brutally hot though...

Imagine how tall it would be if the tapered sides met at a point...
