Updated rendering of Cevallos Lofts on Alamo Architects website...

Here is the site as it was almost 2 months ago (geez time flies,)
the site is now cleared and dug down pretty deep. Perhaps underground parking? I'm not sure.

This is the new rendering:

4 stories is good height for that area, which is mostly single family homes and warehouses. I like this design better than the older one. The old one looked a bit suburban. The newer one adds more height and bumps the building up to the street, giving a more "dense" appearance, even though the number of units remains the same at 252. Another plus for DT.

old one:

Looks like they've done a good job incorporating traffic calming measures. The setbacks seem to be pretty ideal for that area, though I'm not sure if that's a design decision or a result of the zoning.

SAISD/COSA land swap.

The following article was posted today on mySA.com. I think this deal could potentially yield a "win-win situation" for both properties! It would be ideal if public input was incorporated into any "final" designs for both properties.

What do you think?

Saw that this morning. Great news for Southtown and the East Side.

I also saw this article about how hotels have apparently been overbuilt downtown. NO WAY.

I just saw this; all I can say is that this is a great move for both, especially the city and most importantly, DT. The truth is that the Friedrichs location was bad for any real redevelopment to happen with it not only being on the eastside, but also being right up against the cemeteries.

I won't quite call it a complete win yet, depending on what the city does with the land, but it could work out well. While I still think that HEB has something up its sleeve with the old Ricos HQ's building (which is empty now,) I don't see who else the city would be talking to about having a grocery store there. Even if a grocery store isn't going in that location, it's still great to open up that land to development and get SAISD out of there. Wasn't this part of Andujars vision for downtown?

Does anybody know what they are doing to the Tower Life Building where the antenna used to be? I know that they did already install a flag pole at the top of the building, but at the apex where roof supports the flag pole there seems to be some type of construction going on. It has been going on for several weeks. Are they reinforcing the flag pole base, or are they redesigning it? What is going on up there?

I thought the Friedrich building was recently purchased by some group out of Los Angeles? I can't remember the name, but it was some group that bought old buildings in bad neighborhoods and they did job training for people down on their luck (or something like that).

The base of the flagpole/what used to be the antenna is being restored to its original design from the '30s.

Awesome! I've been to the one in downtown Kansas City and it was pretty busy. Its something relatively cheap that a city can do that makes a big difference to a lot of people, especially urban dwellers who have pets in lieu of having kids.
