As for this one, I like the shape. I hope they work on the finish. And I also hope there no twin.

My favorite thing about the design is the fact that the orientation of the step-down feature is towards the lake. When I saw the preliminary sketch that's been passed around for a bit, I was meh about it, but I like how it declines to the shore and Cesar Chavez. The brown color is a bit of a surprise but at the same time, some of Austin's most well-known pre-Frost Tower buildings are clad brown. This will definitely help balance the overwhelming splash of blue glass that's been used on most recent projects, especially if the glass also tints black or brown. As far as the finishes, I'm in wait-and-see mode, but the shape is good.

I wonder what this means for the designs, footprints and size (height) of the buildings.

Trees to be saved at downtown Austin site

After reaching a compromise with Austin city officials, a development company says it will move forward with a new design that allows several large oak trees to stay rooted on the site of the former Green Water Treatment Plant downtown.

However, the deal to keep the trees comes at a cost: Space for public safety offices and nonprofit use have been eliminated.

The article says the building was reduced by 70K square feet to accommodate the trees. It also said construction will start in early 2014.

How about a reverse twin in that the stair step is on the opposite side of the building?

Actually, I could get behind that. Also I still think this design could be good with more emphasis on the glass work for the south facing side. A light blue to lighten the building up and either wavy glass or a pattern similar to one57 in New York to emulate water.

I know they did initial digging on the site before planting grass seeds for erosion. How far do they need to go down or are they doing underground parking?

Goldenboot from the forum found these new renderings of one of the towers at Green Water. This block (block 188) was previously planned as a 234 foot 19-story hotel. Plans now are calling for a 35-story hotel/residential tower with 250 hotel rooms and 120 residential units.

They're calling it "Austin Proper"
