All of the tallest buildings constructed in Fort Worth during the 1980's were ugly. However, they did increase the height of the skyline significantly. As for "urban renewal", I would say that we were hit moderately. There were quite a few older, historic buildings that survived and they have been restored. Only a handful of the historic skyscrapers have been lost. In 2006, the tornado damaged Landmark Tower was imploded, and that made the first time in the city's history that a former tallest building in the city was demolished. It was 30 stories and was completed in 1957. The most notable feature of the building was the large revolving digital clock that was on top of the building. The height of it with the clock was 420 feet. The height to the top of the roof was 380 feet. I know this thread is of old skylines, but I thought I would post a more current photo of Fort Worth's skyline below. I took this photograph from the steps of the Amon Carter Museum in 2009.
