The downtown development map says it's 29-floors.

Could it be possible the 30th floor is the mechanical penthouse?

Who cares about the stories ? Anyone know the height ? With the ornamental top it could be close to 400.

Very true. A structures height is not measured by the number of stories. For the sake of knowing the facts, it is good to know the truth.

Mechanical penthouse levels are really never counted in a building's overall height. Only occupied floors are. The Austonian in Austin actually has 60 floors when you include the 4 mechanical levels inside the crown, but it only has 56 occupied floors. So it's always listed as having 56 floors.

Austonian has 56 occupied floors however the overall height is still to the top of the crown.

I hope Houston continues to be a leader of cities with mostly post-modern architecture.

The top occupied floor (fitness center) is inside the crown above the main roof, but above that inside the crown there are another 4 mechanical floors.

I understand. The statement I am trying to make is height is measured in center-meters, meters, inches, feet and similar. For example a parapet wall or spire is an unoccupied floor however it would be counted with the overall height. Simply stated, this is all I am trying to convey. My post which started this mini-discussion was a question to determine what is officially the number of floors of the Marriott Marquis since there were two different numbers floating around this thread. When I mentioned "knowing the truth", I wanted to determine what is official number of floors. You rightfully made your point which I understand and do greatly appreciate. However when I see height being measured by floor count, this where I have to speak-up.

Basically, we are talking about two different items which are both correct from their own perspective.

This is going to make for an interesting book-end with that proposed condo tower on the other end of the plinth.

The design of the top has changed again. Now just "M" instead of Marriott Marquis.

Also some renders of the interior.

That's great! Can't wait to see this one rise, it will make discovery green feel like it's part of a city surrounded by skyscrapers.
