Isn't that the old Centra Gas storage land that Manitoba Hydro got when they bought Centra? I think it was used for storing natural gas or propane for winter peaking purposes. I know that the tanks have been taken down and they don't do winter peaking anymore.

There was a rezoning application (DASSF 584/07) in May 2009 to split the land up so Manitoba Hydro could sell off excess land to Trademarks Properties Inc for development. Not sure if that transaction ever went through.

January 19, 1958 - At a meeting in Winnipeg's Royal Alex Hotel, the Canadian Football Council withdraws from Canadian Rugby Union and becomes the Canadian Football League. (For more see my post on Syd Halter, the first CFL commissioner.)

great article. As someone who has not visited Winnipeg yet, I continue to be intrigued by Winnipeg more and more as I read interesting tidbits of the city's history, and accelerating growth, downtown revitalization, etc.

hopefully I'll make a visit with some of my fellow Calgarian friends when the CMHR museum opens.

That is a nice article. Reminds me a bit of a different travel column by an Australian from a couple years back:

Winnipeg is one intelligent city

Winnipeg has been named one of the top seven intelligent communities in the world by the Intelligent Communities Forum (ICF).

The prestigious recognition is the second stage of the ICF awards cycle after Winnipeg was included in the Smart 21 cities in October.

The other seven intelligent cities are: Arlington County, Virginia; Columbus, Ohio; Hsinchu City, Taiwan; Kingston, Ont.; New Taipei City, Taiwan; and Toronto, Ont.

Who would have guessed??? I new we'd make the top 10 in the WORLD, just from this forum alone ..

We're in the same group as Toronto...Wow.....

So I've got to ask my fellow Regina posters (and forgive me if this is someone you'd rather forget about), but WHAT ON EARTH is with this Chad Novak guy?!?!

I just watched his live stream of him getting kicked out of Regina City Council: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/chad4mayor

(I understand that they're voting on something tonight with respect to borrowing for the stadium.)

I watched with disbelief when he ran for Mayor in the last election, and I've seen some of his Twitter antics since, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. So when and how does this sad Chad Novak saga end?

Chad Novak has major psychological issues. You can just tell from reading his tweets. He's got a lot of anger. No class what's so ever. Thank God the majority of regina citizens are level headed and never voted for this guy when he was running in the election.

Was posted on the Canada forum and just had to re-post. Only a matter of time before Saskatoon's Mayor comes out and blasts this poll lol. Top 10 city's in Canada to live and Regina is # 2 and Saskatoon is not even on the list. Just like that money sense poll that he said was absolute wrong, there is no way in his words that Regina could be ahead of Saskatoon haha. Can't wait for his rant on this one
