Man, this came out of nowhere for me...

Last I heard he was on deaths door. He then did the stem cell treatment and things turned almost 180. He wasn't jumping for joy, but could walk and stuff.

Another great, gone...

So many great Gordie Howe stories being told today. Lots of reminiscing from Wayne Gretzky, who still holds Howe in high regards as the greatest player ever, in his opinion. Wayne has patterned his off-ice behavior after Gordie and that has certainly helped Wayne achieve the high regard in which he is held by so many people.

One of the good Howe-Gretzky stories heard today related to a White House luncheon with Ronald Reagan associated with the All-Star game being held in Washington in 1982. Howe was sitting beside Reagan and Gretzky was sitting next to Howe. Wayne was a little overwhelmed by the assortment of cutlery surrounding the plate and Gordie could see the confusion in Wayne’s face as he tried to figure what utensil should be used at what time. Gordie leaned over to Wayne and whispered, “I’ll watch Reagan, you watch me”.
