Appears to be related to the parkade, loading/unloading, with a prefunction area above.

Here it is Apr 17 and the buiding is still up. They cut a swath out of the middle but I thought by now it would be completely down.

Called into work this morning for a trouble call and noticed that crews are again working on demolition of the hotel. I wonder if for some reason they are only working on it over the weekends.

I spoke with someone working on the housing project across the back lane. He mentioned that they were only planning on completing the demo works on Friday/Saturday/Sundays.

My guess it has to do with safety.... ie the street / parking lot immediately to the north / and PCL construction site will have less people traffic.

Considering we have not heard of any plans to regarding the redevelopment of that site Imrie is in no rush to complete the works.

Must be a "heavy lift" coming up on May 4 for the convention center expansion. Carlton St (St. Mary to York) is going to be closed all day for what the city calls crane operation.

Passing by the WCC today, I noticed that the expanded part of the building is a bit narrower than the original... it looks like the new structure will not have any sort of overhang above the sidewalks on Carlton and Edmonton. That came as a bit of a surprise to me...

If that's how it turns out, good. The sidewalks around the old building are a deadzone. It would be nice to have people milling around the outside of the building or perhaps some restaurants/shops that open up to the sidewalk.

I don't think that the overhangs themselves were the killer... it had more to do with the fact that there was no through sidewalk on the west side, and the east side follows a non-obvious route that doglegs around the ramps, and probably makes some people feel uneasy due to the fact that it is partially hidden.

I do agree that a couple street-level CRUs would be nice although I don't recall seeing those in the plans...

The original Convention Centre's East/West Sides were planned in such a way to allow vehicle access to the top floors of the convention centre.

Car shows, large conventions etc. I drove vehicles up/ and down these ramps on several occasions to actually unload large displays on the floors of the exhibit areas. I also parked vehicles their as well for exhibition purposes.

The new expansion will not need this kind of access to the areas now planned. CRU's at street level with the existing Convention centre could never have been added, with the way it was planned and laid out. This section was planned in an entirely different fashion.

Apologies for the huge image... But it does apeear to be a lot narrower on the east side. West side goes closer to the property line. Is there some type of outdoor space there?

It would be an added bonus. Hopefully we may here more details in the near future from those involved.

By the way, I nominate your image above for one of the largest I've seen thus far on SSP.
I wanted to view it on my flat screen TV, but it would not accept it's humongous size.

LOL is there a way to make images smaller on here? Or is that done elsewhere.

Nope, I've tried, every possible combination of code. It's basically download it, chop it, then upload it to your host, or download it and send it to your host if they allow the size. ie: flickr, photobucket..whatever..
