Would be great to see something like a PRET-a-Manger go there, would be very busy.

In the seafood city at Garden City mall. Really just up the street from the second.

^ That's something, two Jollibees on McPhillips alone.

We are Jollibee. Apparently. I'm glad people are excited, I suppose.

Slurpees and peach mango pie. That's how we roll in this town.

I'm curious about seafood city, a friend of mind just ranted and raved about the location in Toronto.

I hope we can compete with the selection/freshness they have out east.

The Joliibee at Garden City is likely more a food court style one than a full location. Think Starbucks in a grocery store v their flagship store on River.

In terms of Seafood City, considering Winnipeg has one of the largest populations for their target customers in Canada and they are doing an aggressive expansion across Canada they will likely be going all out of their Winnipeg store.

The question I still have is who will ultimately take over the former Sobey's location on Burrows and how soon will that happen. It is calling out to be an Asian grocery store.

I see what you did there!

I'm sure these companies have done their homework, but it would seem to me that the area around Tyndall Park/Maples, say around Inkster and Keewatin would be a more logical place for a third Jollibee. Those areas are home to a huge Filipino population... Inkster and Keewatin in particular is surrounded by that community in all directions. By contrast, once you get east of McPhillips there are hardly any Filipinos.

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but Pho Hoang is now open on Portage near Fort... I was starting to wonder if it was ever going to happen. Anyway, it looks quite nice in there. They did a good job with the décor.

Definitely surprised that Pho Hoang is doing table service with proper menus at the Portage Ave location. If I had guessed I would have assumed fast casual style. aka menu bolted to the wall, order at a counter fast food style with the food brought to your table. Think Panera Bread.

^ Pho Hoang is basically following the standard Vietnamese joint template in that regard. However, normally places like that just have 4 bare walls and some basic old chairs. Seeing the effort put into décor sets them apart somewhat...

Fairly surprised that the fast casual format as a whole has yet to really catch on in Winnipeg. It is definitely a safe guard and dine and dash as people pay upfront and let's the operators save on costs as they don't need as many front end staff looking after customers.

Did they open too many suburban locations the downtown shop suffered? Good to see though they are trying something new.

No, it was due to a stark contrast between the downtown one and all the others. The downtown one often has club nights, huge parties after jets games and events, bottle service, and party brunches – the suburban ones are family joints. The Taylor one doesn't even have a bar.

They just realized it didn't make sense for the brand to have the downtown location presented the same as the others.

The name is a clear ripoff of Cactus Club Cafe though. That sucks.

Winnipeg is getting a PF Chang's on the Plaza at Polo (old Target site) on St James.

^Interesting. Will it be in the old Target building, or will a new structure be built on the site?
