Sky Vue, a $50+ million, 389-unit luxury apartment building, will be located between Fifth and Forbes in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood just west of the University of Pittsburgh. The development will also feature a 138-room limited service hotel, street-level retail, 10,000 sq ft of office space and a garage for 363 cars and 131 bikes.

The Georgia-based developer of the largest new apartment project Oakland has seen in decades is ready to present a design and a name to the Pittsburgh Planning Commission.

According to the agenda of the Pittsburgh Planning Commission, an affiliate of Valdosta, Ga.-based Ambling University Development Group, plans to call its new 389-unit apartment building Skyvue.

The project is proposed to replace the former Allegheny County Health Department building at 3333 Forbes Ave. and a few smaller neighboring properties near the heart of Oakland.

A rendering of the design for the project by the architecture firm of Niles Bolten Associates shows a structure featuring street-level retail and below-grade parking that maxes out much of the plot on which it’s expected to be built. The overall project is expected to be 14 levels, including 358 parking spaces in a development expected to total more than 400,000 square feet.

The design features two apartment towers built onto a larger base, with a rooftop deck and interior courtyard within the U-shaped structure.

Looks pretty good in the renderings.....Tallish for Oakland and quite massive. Hoping construction starts soon. City might request some tweaks but this one is happening. Preservationists and local citizens don't have much opposition to this one.

Pittsburgh Planning Commission approved plans Tuesday for a 14-story development featuring 389 apartments on the site of the former Allegheny County Health Department building in Oakland.

Wilson, executive director of the Oakland Planning and Development Corp.

Plans show 211 of the apartments would be studios and one-bedroom units. Another 115 apartments would have two bedrooms, while 63 would include three bedrooms.

If there is anything I like better than construction, it's demolition! Demolition is scheduled to begin next week with construction possibly as early as November.....Awesome! Looks like a very well designed project. I may have to keep this one on the radar for my own new address.

I hate to see that art deco school get torn down but that part of Forbes Avenue really needs some life injected into it, hopefully this development helps liven up the area.

It was a solid building... though I hated the grassy setback.

No pics but solid progress is being made. Workers and equipment were active today(Saturday) and the crane base is already installed.

Yeah, it's a huge site too. This is the most impressive apartment building UC in the city.

Does anyone have any info on apartment pricing? I am very curious to know how much they will be charging. The initial news articles did not say.

I think they are gonna gear this towards being managed student housing so I'm guessing they might do a per-bed pricing at around $1,000 a bed for the larger floor plans and higher for the smaller floor plans. Maybe $$1,500 range for a 1x1? Just a guess
