Perhaps he wasn't taught about "Sherman's march to the sea" since it didn't happen to Alabama.

I was speaking regionally. Not to assume too much, but typically we will learn (at least it was in my schools) with slight more emphasis on regional history. Alabama is part of the South, just as Georgia is, and they share somewhat common history, especially during the Civil War. That's all. He had made it clear to me that it was not a question.

Another for Salt Lake city.

The original Salt Palace:

This was destroyed by fire in 1910 and never rebuilt. The current site houses a few homes, parking lots and ghetto businesses. The Salt Palace originally was a dance hall and gathering place.

Here's photos of its fire.

My picks for Columbus.

Chittenden Hotel..interesting looking building:

Union Station(they should have saved it and incorporated it into new development for the facade alone):

Yes, at least regarding attractions. And, it looks like it soon may be developed even further away from its amusement roots (well, originally it's prostitution and seedy character roots, but I prefer the happier amusement roots!

Shit. Tell me that's not worth a good cry.

Unhappy Detroit

Heres another pic of The Real Estate Exchange Bldg.(tall white building on the left) along with the original Pontchartrain Hotel(on the right). Also the highrise and midrise on the same block as The Real Estate Exchange Bldg. were lost. In other words, everything in this photo is gone.

Here's a couple more pics of The Real Estate Exchange Bldg. after The Cadillac Tower was built(very tallest building), which is still standing and in use, thank god.

In Omaha it might be easier to post the important buildings that weren't destroyed.

Here are a two great buildings that are gone.
How any one could tear these buildings down I don't know.

Omaha's Old Post Office.

Woodmen of the World building.

For D.C.: the old capital building burned down and was replaced by the new one which turned out to be better than the first
