A lot of that information is outdated/incorrect. A lot has changed of the project. It will now be 1.8 million square feet and cost anywhere from 300-400 million dollars as well as construction on the first phase (of three) to start in 2008.

When I first saw this rendering I thought the hotels had surface parking but then I looked closer and it's a parking structure. There are actually quite a few.

It might be, though we have yet to see renderings for The Landmark or Cresta Bella. Also, phase III of The Shops at La Cantera.

Great stuff. If you were planning on telling somebody about these developments what would you call these things? Outdoor malls, Upscale shopping centers I have no idea what the proper term for these places are cause I do not think if I tell someone about the urban mixed use will be sweet lol

Wow, that makes 3 Ritz-Carltons in San Antonio! Err...at least proposed sites.

Seriously, though, this development looks like it will put everything else going on in San Antonio to shame. I hope it's a huge success and will prove that the city doesn't always have to settle for cheap and ugly. The buildings should look really nice in that environment.

Yeah, it seems like every time someone mentions "hotel" the name Ritz-Carlton is thrown out there. I think I've heard it mentioned as a possibility in RiverCenter, Houston Street, the Rim, River North and now here. Now I could have it mixed with the Four Seasons, another name-dropped hotel. So I just used 3.

Now, talking realistically, it seems like the Ritz has had some interest in being in the San Antonio market. Considering the kind of clientele they would attract, where is the most likely area for them to consider.

I like downtown, but is there really anything there that would make it a destination for that type of visitor? SA has no performing arts (really), limited fine dining. They could easily visit downtown and leave. While the area of Eilan may actually have more to offer with golf courses, spas, shopping, more resort type features.

Is it enough for them to really consider SA? I don't don't know enough about them to say.

A downtown Ritz-Carlton would be part of a redeveloped Rievercenter Mall which is adding 3 or 4 fine dining restaurants. As for a Performing Arts Center, well, if in May the venue tax is passed, then downtown will be getting one, a very nice one. But back to the number 3, I only think there are two proposed Ritz-Carltons. The one downtown and this one at Eilan (though that is rumor). The Rim will have one boutique hotel (Hotel Talavera) one luxury hotel (The Stanbury) and two Marriott hotels. I hear one of the hotels at The Landmark may be the St. Regis.

This is The Stanbury in Atlanta.

I'm not sure how the one at The Rim will look but it will be hotel/residential as well.
