That’s a garden worth designating historic....I’m gonna start calling my 10x6 front yard ‘Grant Park Farms’. Maybe I can qualify for some of the Trump farm subsidies!

I was really worried that, despite its historic designation, the land was so valuable that they'd tear it down! great news.

Yeah that’s close to what I Hope happens for the area, except close off that section of existing 10th st, retain Woody’s, and create a pedestrian plaza around Woody’s. Don’t let Park Tavern have multiple ingress/egress, which bottlenecks traffic on Monroe. Place a stop sign at Kanuga & Virginia. You cannot see over the bridge, anyhow.

So, in looking at other road diagrams, the color orange seems universally applied to bridges, however, the road markings lead me to believe that there will at least be the option of a surface crossing for the Beltline and cycle track. The bridge might be a bad move as what they depict in the diagram does not seem to accommodate the future light rail line. The current plan for getting light rail through this tunnel actually had the Beltline trail climb to Virginia avenue, with the tunnel under Virginia avenue exclusively being for the rail lines. The other option was to rebuild the virginia avenue bridge, which might be the better option. The orange depiction above does not allow for the rail lines to go past the orange structure, if I am reading that right. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

That’s why I asked the source. The distance between the track at the stadium and the existing street alignments don’t quite look correct when you drive the intersection. I just drove through it a couple hours ago. It’s a nice thought process but doesn’t look realistic with existing infrastructure.

Furthermore, the APS has no intention of ceding any property around Grady whatsoever. They are severely space limited already on what is planned over the next 10 years facilities wise. The whole cluster has a master plan in place now for construction and they are still anticipating a shortage of classrooms and infrastructure for this section of the city at all grade levels.

Contrary to popular belief, Landmark status does not guarantee that the historic Shutze masterwork will not be torn down.

I hope they can build around it with good density while being sympathetic to Spring Hill and the structure.

Lol.

But, many gardens that are historic need massive restoration, right?

I have to agree. Adding some landscaping is "fine". I also thought the centennial Park renovation was kinda boring.

Random question: What policy avenues are available to require developers to produce buildings with... higher quality design/materials? (I know it's subjective, but.. however you want to interpret that)

Saint Joseph's $50M answer to Atlanta's affordable housing crisis

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/..._news_headline
Quote:
In Atlanta’s rapidly gentrifying Old Fourth Ward, a new project could expand health-care services and affordable housing next to MARTA's King Memorial station.

The idea is led by Saint Joseph’s Health System, whose Mercy Care program helps homeless and underserved patients in Atlanta.

The more than $50 million development could include up to 280 affordable housing units for families and senior citizens. In general, low-income housing units in Atlanta are set aside for individuals and families making between $44,650 and $63,750 a year.

The project will also expand the existing Mercy Care headquarters and clinic, which stands at 424 Decatur Street across from the King Memorial station.

As proposed, the entire project covers about four acres. It will be called McAuley Park.

I hate the surface parking so damn much. This city still sucks at building a decent urban street. They'll never learn.
