Well, that's pretty much construction of almost all the buildings in downtown Detroit except for the really old buildings. And really none of the newer buildings that were built in the last 20 years. Hmm.
This is from a 16x20 inch gelatin silver print in my collection that I found in an antique store. There are a couple buildings under construction in the photo.

The big one in the back is now One Chase Manhattan Plaza, finished in 1961, which means this picture is probably 1959 or 1960.
I love this thread, but certain photos make me nostalgic for the grand old days of Detroit, lower Manhattan, etc.

Lower Manhattan seems perfect in terms of scale, proportion and setbacks in this shot. Already in 1960 the tables are turning with new construction of the modern box behemoths that marched in and established dominance over the skyline. For better or worse, the character would never be the same.^^^

It's said to be the 2nd skyscraper ever built in Detroit reaching only 150 feet to the roof. The 1st skyscraper was demolished in 1956 and leaves this building as the oldest skyscraper in the city.

IMO Detroit looked better without the RenCen but awesome pictures.
I really like the addition of the Ren Center to Detroit. Driving down the 401 from Toronto to Windsor it really stands out. Some of those construction photos truly show what a massive scale this project was to build.
