As for flava 107.9, their morning format was horrible. The people hosting it sounded like they were the living dead, and were not funny at all. 6 hours (I think) of them yaping alone would be enough to shut that station down. I hope they discontinue that segment.

As for dance/electro, none of that exists in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton or any other city out west. Only in Montreal and Toronto will you find that on mainstream radio in Canada, or if you are close enough to the US border to pick up these kinds of stations which are quite common down there.

Yeah, their morning format was garbage to begin with. I hope they make it more interesting, and with college students running the show, hopefully the morning would be a lot better.

They have to expand an electro/dance radio station out here. Hell, all of Canada if they have to. This sort of music is huge in Europe and throughout most parts in the world. Here, we're stuck with terrible pop music.

One thing that I am aware of is that all over Western Canada for the last two years or so, including Winnipeg, there seem to be many big-name concerts happening. Now if only U2 would make an appearance (anywhere in Western Canada, I don't care at this point), I am so there!

Well, U2 came to Winnipeg almost 11 years ago (being the very first Canadian stop in their first leg of their tour if I recall correctly). There was a petition to bring them back here from their last tour, but no dice.

Hopefully on their next studio album, they'll come out here again.

THE JD EDWARDS BAND
TOMORROW!!
Friday, February 29 @ NOON
@
MTS CENTRE
Graham Concourse
JD Edwards is a songwriter/singer and occasionally a five-piece rock experience that is quickly becoming a staple in the Canadian music scene. Through incessant gigging and innovatively groovy song-writing, JD Edwards is breaking through the barriers of mediocrity and giving Canadian listeners something to dance about. The band’s sound is a synthesis of Blind Melon’s funk and The Black Crowes’ blues, while JD sings with the stoned sexiness of Dave Matthews and the orgasmic outbursts of Ben Harper. JD manages to musically acknowledge his influences without compromising his ingenuity or principle.

this thread will be much better served by actual discussions and/or recommendations, rather than just posting any and all listings you can find.

sorry to be a pisshead about these things, but when you copy a pile of random images, it just becomes visual clutter and actually makes people read LESS. as soon as i started scrolling through post after post of abrasive images, i stopped paying attention.

if you want to pass on the info, which is great!, just copy the text into a readable list in a normal post.

Being that I am in school for Music Production/Sound Engineering, I follow a lot of what is going on here, genre unrestricted. Some of the good local sources for me to see what's happening are;

http://winnipeg.posterpole.ca/

http://www.manitobamusic.com/

http://www.winnipeg-metal.com/local-artists.html

http://www.tourismwinnipeg.com/thing...stivals-events (Always bands playing at festivals)

Your typical folk/jazz/etc festival

https://www.facebook.com/Musicians.Network.Winnipeg.MB

etc. Multiple others, but I am just walking out the door now.

Great links Chris, I don't have the formal training you have but have been involved in music since I was 8. Keyboards, guitar(s), bass, vocals..turned into, bands, live gigs, recording..and the "lifestyle ", for as long as I can remember, maybe not as much these days, but I try to follow it when I can.

Thx for this.

I hope so too! A few of my 1st gigs were in the east and west exchange. Lotta talent in the Peg, but I've seen so many band mates move to Vancouver or Toronto.

Black Night, Norlander..so many past live venues, but there are many still left! The St Albert thing ticks me off a little, apparently it's not working out very well..Ever play the Albert?..lol...It's a must for any start up or new indie band..lol

With the outdoor entertainment and live music season closing in on us we give you the "Cube". Where a functional outdoor venue vs. an architecturally unique art form meet in one place and don't work.

Cube stage almost ready to reopen

After a litany of functional issues, the Cube stage should be open in time for the summer festival season.

Coun. Mike Pagtakhan (Point Douglas), who chairs the city’s downtown development committee, said the stage is nearly fixed after years of technical woes.

Hmm not the biggest fan of Tom, but still a pretty good choice for an opening act half time show, being a Manitoba boy and all.I will admit "Life is a Highway", does strike a chord with me.

Tom Cochrane to play at halftime of Bomber home opener

Bomber fans attending the team’s home opener at Investors Group Field will get an added bonus: a halftime performance from Tom Cochrane
