Although Katz has a ridiculously hot girlfriend..

Don't you think it would be something, if somehow, someway, Judy and Sam had this real passionate kiss on camera as a way of making up?

You know, the kind of angry french kissing that a man and woman do when they really HATE each other like they do in the soap operas.

During my students midterm exam I played out this scenario in my head repeatedly.

Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I unusual?

I'm still shocked that the NDP machinery managed to lose Elmwood. Thomas Steen and his hair get an interesting job for the next four years.

Gord Steeves and Russ Wyatt steamrolled. No surprise. Both could have went to Cancun for the month of October and their re-election bid was safe.

I considered that image but I could only see it with Katz's vomit spraying from between their embrace.

This is terrific news. Elmwood has been plagued by terrible representation for as long as I can remember, this has a lot to do with the fact that the NDP could run a sack of cowpies here and win. Perhaps this era is over.

Only because they split the vote. Robinson and Giesbrecht had more votes than Steen combined. Hard to imagine he's a legitimate candidate and not just a popular name.

Ohh Christ, have I ever..

I couldn't stomach voting for either Judy or Sam. It was the only way I could get through today.

I'm not a big Sam fan but I still think he was the better of the two main mayoral candidates, in fact I think Judy would have been a disaster. Sam's acceptance speech was sincere and I am more impressed with him now that I know he can find himself a pretty good looking women!

TEN YEARS IS ENOUGH!!!

The provincial 'Nothing Done Properly' party, and their tax and spend brand of big labour smellfare politics are officially done.

In my opinion, this quote from the Free Press website sums of the lay of the local political landscape nicely..

"Make no mistake about it - The biggest loser tonight is Greg Selinger. This whole foray into Winnipeg civic politics was his initiative, and he's the one who talked Judy into running (soft landing for Judy with Manitoba tax dollars will be announced shortly after the dust settles).

What was made clear tonight was that "Fortress Winnipeg", as the provincial NDP results have been called, was really nothing more than "Fortress Doer". And without Gary Doer, the NDP is sunk. The vaunted NDP "machine" was exposed as a mirage. You can't bring out votes on election day that aren't there.

This was just the prelude. The NDP will be out of power provincially in 12 months time."

One question comes to mind after watching the Civic Election:

Who is hotter- Steen's daughter or Katz's new girlfriend?

Didn't see Steen's daughter, but seeing how her dad grew up in Sweden I can only imagine.

Man, i'm rock hard tonight with no prospect of sleep nor sex in sight.

Guess, i'll have to turn to the old 911 scanner for comfort and see what's going on in our fair city.

Has anyone actually seen the PCs Platform lately (no, not McFadyen's promise to bring back the Jets- that was 3 years ago)? Someone explain to me how this works:

Cut taxes, repay debt, build more schools, build more community centres, hire more police, preserve the environment, make prescription drugs more affordable for seniors, and the list goes on...

Guess they are planning on pulling a Katz and begging a higher level of government for revenue?

I don't even know if the Cons need to do all that..

After this many years in power, if the NDP hasn't solved it they're part of the problem.

Well, that's Canadian federalism for you..

Had the American civil war not shaped our country by giving us a preference for a strong central government in order to keep rebellious states / provinces weak, maybe these lesser layers of government could do something for us plebes.

Don't get me wrong, America is fucked up in a lot of ways...

But, in my view local government should always trump the ferderal government.

Afterall, it's a lot easier to leave a state / province if you're dissatisfied than to leave the country.

Free Press columnist Bartley Kives on twitter..

bkives: Spent five hours reviewing #wpgvotes stories since December. So much talk, so little policy. Wpgers deserve better.

Sam may not be ideal, but he is and will be more effective than the bag of russet potatoes who spends five bucks to get her hair done...

I like Thomas Steen and all but i don't understand how he is/can represent Elmwood. He has tones of cash, has a huge house, lives in Tuxedo and is supposed to relate and represent the people in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Winnipeg?
