Absolutely Love the shape it forced and the contrast it creates.
!! Love the power of that small house in this setting.

Nice contrast between really, really old Austin and the new.

Mentioned this before, but I read somewhere that Governor Sam Houston had attended dinner parties there.

Thats going to be quite the juxtaposition with the historic house surrounded on two sides by a massive blank parking garage wall. Really wish there was more care taken in designs to blend these bloated pedestals in with the built environment better.

Well, somebody could paint a landscape mural on those two walls depicting what the views looked like from that vantage point 160 years ago.

Haha! You beat me to it. Was thinking the exact same thing where they could paint the hills and area as if it were from that time period.

My guess is if they'd of incorporated the land beneath the historic structure into the building however many thousands of square feet it would hold as the building goes up would be eaten out of the top floors. Near the same square footage, only bulkier and shorter. I like it the way it is!

The webcam appears to be offline, or at least not working for me.

r/Austin user CurtisEMclaughlin posted this drone shot of the pit today:

Thankfully the tower portion will not take up the entire space. It's going to take up a lot...but, not all of it.

The south face of the tower will be slightly more narrow than 300 West Sixth to the right. The podium will appear huge, but the tower isn't really all that bulky. Still, the height of it will make it seem huge on the skyline anyway.

Looks like some significant concrete pours have been done, and it almost looks like the first floorplate for the underground parking is being poured.

They are framing the first elevated deck (Level B2) and the dirt ramp is getting removed. This project should really start rolling now!

George Blume, right in my veins.

Beautiful. Important to have these renderings, too — it’s important to know what your skyline’s gonna look like in a couple of years.

Why stop there? Add BBVA, the Republic, 5C, both Hanovers, even 4th and Brazos.

Maybe there's more. Am I forgetting something?

It's just mother effing incredible.
